For you folks that think this is no big deal, these rigs are 10 miles almost to the inch out of US waters. China now has over 30 rigs alone and more are on the way. And you might wanna know that there is more than just drilling equipment on these rigs. They aren't just drilling for oil out there.

They are in international waters and are most likely spying on us just as we are on them.

I made the mistake of not checking out what I know now as a falsehood. (China/Florida/Cuba) At least I can say Rudy Giuliani did the same thing.

I do hope that everyone read the link, there's a lot of good information in it.

I promise I won't make that mistake again.

Those Liberal Loons don't get it. They are quick to dispute that oil drilling is not in US waters, but fail to mention that how extremely close it is. Plus, without doubt, China does not care, adhere, and/or enforce the safety measures which are imposed on US drillers when it comes to drilling. Here we have cases of tainted food and lead toys coming from China, but we don't seem concerned because they are several miles outside US waters.

It was a good read. I wouldn't worry about the mistake...the Liberal Loons make those daily. Plus, unlike a Loon, you man up to a mistake and carry-on.

So they are in International waters then, where they can be at.
They are following the rules, and it is a big deal ?
Have yet to see where China being in International waters is breaking a single rule. I see where pointing out they are following the rules makes one a loon, but this is opinion, which everyone is entitled to.

How about France and Canada, are they in the same area ?
I guess it is OK that they are there, as everyone wants to focus on China for some reason.

As in ????
Got anything other than your opinion or speculation about this ?

And again, it is in International waters, so exactly what rules are being broken here ?

Seem to recall that the US gov broke more than a few rules over the years. Francis Gary Powers ring a bell.

I'm not a Liberal by any means, and if China is following the rules, what can / should the US gov do about it ?

I think the point here is that the U.S. abides by onerous environmental rules that most nations do not. As a result, we have sacrificed national security to Arab nations when we should've been drilling our own. (ANWR, N.D., Gulf of Mexico, CA coast)

It's not that China is breaking the rules....it's that they are drilling so close, within miles of our coasts. I see that as a concern. They are tapping our resources. Plus, they are a country who gives a crap about environmental laws, rules, and/or concerns.

Just because they are outside our waters....doesn't mean they are tapping our resources without our waters. You do realize that we have a metric butt-ton of recoverable oil reserves. It is time that we fend for ourselves and not rely on the Arab oil.

We shouldn't be dependent on oil period.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-11128_3-9966867-54.html

More power, better gas mileage, and all that other good stuff. All we have to do is dedicate a barren area to producing this stuff. It won't affect the food or corn market like traditional ethanol production does.
