Pancho's Mexican Buffet...

I noticed that this franchise has grown in the years since I left Shreveport. (Back in 1995.) It's spread throughout the Southeast. It used to be one of my favorite places to eat, back in the day, and people around here (in NC) are dumbfounded by the idea of a Mexican buffet restaurant.

Do you guys who live near a Pancho's frequent the place? The one in Shreveport used have lines out the door.

They are based out of Fort Worth. We have one in Burleson, just South of Fort Worth and there are 3 or 4 in Fort Worth proper. I ate there one time, about 15 years ago and decided I would not go back unless I needed a laxative. Have yet to go back.

I noticed one just off I-20 when I was going through Ft. Worth. That was what reminded me of the place. The one in Shreveport was popular. I enjoyed the food and the service. It's been a lot of years for me, too.

I'm raising the BS flag on this post!

Do you really expect people to believe you have not needed a laxative for the last 15 years?

There have been a couple of times that I considered eating there again, but I got everything worked out and went elsewhere.

They seem to do a reasonable business around here, but for me, there are just so many good Mexican food places, there is always a better option.

I think the one you are referring to is just off Trail Lake Dr, on the South side of I-20, I didn't know it was still open.

I hear that. Quality is important. I was just curious about how the place is perceived by other people. I was never a big Mexican food fan, and the variety of a buffet kept me from ordering a meal I was unhappy with.

It's off Exit 446... I guess that's in Tate Springs, to be more precise.

I used to go to them at least once every two months. Been to at least four different ones in the ftworth, burleson, arlington area. About 6 years ago I thought I was dying after eating there(thats what was going though my mind as I hugged the porcalin god) and have never gone back nor do I intend to. I am sure they werent the reason I got sick but unfortunately they are getting the blame.

There used to be some around the memphis area. I guess there may still be though I don't know of any offhand. Had a taco burger there once. Which was just taco meat lettuce, cheese and sour cream on a bun. Different but not bad suprisingly. The one in my town, a memphis suburb, went out years ago. It was not a buffet though and the service really got bad which is what killed it.

The one here in Shreveport is still popular, though one in my previous hometown of Longview, TX closed some years ago and never re-opened. the building still sits there in the Panchos livery, but empty.

I used to eat at them quite often in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and here in Shreveport. To me they're sort of a glorified Mexican fast food. I always enjoyed them but most of my friends won't go. Too many other Mexican choices perceived to be of higher quality.

Your in NC??

The only Mexican Buffet in Gastonia received an 83 on the health rating so, we haven't been back. Good food though, only a few 'crunchies' when you chewed.

There's still one open in San Antonio on the west side. A great place if you aren't picky about what you put in yer mouth. It's about as low as Mexican food can go and still be called eatable........at least the one there anyway. South Texas and San Antonio are noted for the best Mexican food on the planet. Pancho's is not in that league. I'd rank it right there with frozen Patio or some other frozen crap.
