I don't know the specifics of my full coverage plan, but my deductible is $1000, no accidents, just got my first ticket which is points free (not on insurance), etc, with Farmers Insurance. I'm on my family's plan, so I'm one of many on the plan.. We also have a 2010 Ford Fusion on there (full, dad), 2005 Dodge Dakota (full, mom), 1997 Ford Ranger (liability, 20 year old brother), 1996 Jeep Cherokee (liability, 18 year old brother), 1997 Chevy Cavalier (mine, but my dad is listed as primary driver, liability, it's $30 a month), my boat, motor, and trailer (full coverage on all), and our house. Our insurance bill is NUTS.

The big item that is underwriter independent is credit rating.

Insurance company actuaries have linked ( with many years of data ) that driver's with poor credit ratings are more likely to have a claim.

Very few states disallow this type of policy pricing, it would be listed in the terms and conditions page, included with the quote & bill.

The quote ( new quote or renewal ) will have your category for the credit rating, and the additional charge ( discount ) if any on the deceleration page. If your state allows this type of pricing of policies, you alreayd have a good idea from looking at your current dec page.

Any subrogation of claim on the accident you had will have an impact on your rate, along with how long it has been since the accident.
Some have an added cost for 3 years, others 5 years ( the accident forgiveness advertising you hear some underwriters talk about on TV ).

Shifting insurance companies a lot can also have an impact on a "new" driver's rate, when coupled with an accident on record.

You might be best to try an insurance broker ( that you have a good reference for ) that is not linked 100% to a single underwriter to price shop for you.
Watch how many independent brokers you have doing this you can get too many hits on your credit rating, and it can lower your credit rating just by having too many inquires in a single month.

BTW : My underwriter does not write policies in your state.

I'm not sure on the specifics, but i know my parents purchased some kind of balloon policy. It means i have to have the highest limits on all my insurance coverage. I mean the highest too!!! Mine is like $1200/yr, but that's only bc my family has all our insurance thru state farm and they give us/me all kinds of discounts. Like good grade discount, multi line dis., one for being a customer so long, etc. I couldn't afford it if my parents didn't put me on they're plan tho bc i still get all those discounts even tho i have to pay for the higest limit full coverage. It's like half million limits or something i think. My insurance drafts from my account and i don't ever keep up with a check book so i don't know the exact amount, but it's like around $100/mo.

As long as you live under your parents roof, even if your like 27, they're liable if you wreck and were ot kill someone. Thats what the ballon policy is for. I'm 20.

Oh yeah, i've rearended a couple ppl...i felt bad and then i have like 5-6 tickets maybe can't keep up with it,but i'm still about $100/mo full coverage. 20y/o.
OH yeah and one time some old ppl sped up when we were merging on the interstate and then decided to slam on they're brakes at the last minute when i was turned around to look and make sure it was clear. It was like four old ppl, i'm so glad i was able to avoid them cause it would have killed them if i had hit them in my 98 f150 when i was 18. it doesn't take long to catch up with someone when your going 55-60. Don't know how i missed them, i couldn't see the roof of they're crown vic over my hood, but i swerved on to the highway and couldn't get control of it again and it had a bl on it. don't know if that had anything to do with it, but my tires were coming off the ground almost rolled on me. Anyway did a 180 and slid into the guardrail cables in the median. Didn't hardly do any body damage, but i had to use one of my schalorships to pay for the damage to the front suspension. Bent my spindle/control arms had to replace ball joints etc. my steering wheel was like sideways and i could hardly control it when i hit a bump in the road. Then a year and a half later, the state sent me a bill for the guardrail. wasn't expecting that, it was $2500.
