Another Deer Cam Pic.
we recently had a mountain lion shot in my area (northeast iowa). it was sitting in a tree and a deer hunter saw it staring at him, stopped moving, it didnt attack or anything. he calls his local dnr people to make sure its legal to kill it, it is. he then proceded to blow 2 holes in its face with his 12 ga. lol
there was another one in southwest iowa a few years back. a farmer calls the dnr and tells tem something is eating his sheep and he thought it was a mountain lion. they tell him "no such thing in iowa" he says ok. next day he sees it again, get his 30-06 and kills it. it was wearing a tracking collar so he drags it into his barn. the next day the dnr is in his yard looking at a laptop. they get out of the car and look around. guy walks up and they say they hafta look in the barn, he asks why? "were looking for something". "oh, it wouldnt be a mountain lion would it? cause theres none of those in iowa" me thinks their hiding something....

I have seen a bobcat in the woods here in south georgia. Didn't have a gun, but that's not the point. I wouldn't of even shot him if I did. Only things I'd shoot is a hog or armadillo. They are not native to georgia, nor do they have any natural predators. Reproduce too fast too.
Too many tards around here that just shoot anything that moves. They probably don't even eat the meat. what a waste.

Bobcats in S Texas are the number 1 killer of deer. If you have many bobs, you won't have any fawns- at all. I think they are beautiful animal but like any other animal, they have to be controlled. I'm not sure you could even get close to killing enough of them here to make them a rare animal. Armadillos, now that's gotten to be a rare thing to see since Lone Star Beer made it their mascot. Seems like everybody just had to have one until they found out how filthy they are. Now an armadillo is a rare one to see. They were as common as rabbits at one time. But where you have Bobcats, you won't have any fawns. Bobs are also one of the rare animals that will kill for sport. Some of the ranchers here raise goats/sheep and a Bob will cruise thru the flocks and kill 30-40 head and carry off MAYBE one. They're not good news animals that's for sure.

I do kill armadillos, and beaver. Both are a nuisance here. But the beaver multiply faster than rabbits.
Idk but I just did some reading on the bobcat, the heaviest bobcat ever recorded was only 48.9 pounds. Now I'm setting here looking at my boxer (who is very muscular and not that big weighing in at approx 60 pounds, he was 50 somethin last time we took him to the vet), and looking at this pic. That bobcat appears to me to be much more the 48.9 pounds! Maybe it's just the pic but that thing looks monsterous for a bobcat!

This one is a story for Jerry Clower, and his "Souped up Wildcat".

Oh I'm not doubting this pic one bit, I was just saying when I was looking up bobcats it said the biggest ever recorded or caught was 48.9 pounds, and to me that looks bigger than 48.9 pounds. I mean I have never seen a bobcat or nothing, but it says they have a 4-7in bobbed tail which is where they get their name from. Which this one appears to have a short "bobbed" like tail. I'm not trying to prove you wrong or be a jack azz, I'm just saying you might have ya a new record there. I thought that size was typical of bobcats, but apparently they are much smaller. It said a typical bobcat male weighs anywhere from 16-30 pounds. I must of thought bobcats were typically the size of mountain lions, but guess I was wrong! It kinda sucks that I'm about the only area on the map in North America that shows no bobcats. We don't have anything like that here, I guess fox is about the meaniest things around here, well coyotes as well. But neither of which are very large. The large cat family has always intrigued me. I always loved seeing the siberian tigers at the zoo when I was young.

That thing is huge. I was in WV on a hunting trip and saw two bobcats. Saw one walking not even 25-30 ft. from my stand. He even had a rabbit in his mouth, which would of made for an awesome mount. But I passed on both. All I had was my 30.06, figured there wouldn't be much else left to mount after that hit them. Plus they were about 1/4 the size of that hoss in the pic.
I've just never seen one that big. All of the Bobcats I've ever seen were about the size of foxes. This one is just huge. I didn't look up the statistics, so I didn't know there had ever been a fifty pounder reported. You notice when I posted the picture, I didn't say what it was. I just never thought of them getting that big.

thats a big damned cat!
we've had reports of black panthers and mountain lions around here but none have been confirmed (says NCWRC)
haha yeah I still stay on my toes when I walk to and from the deer stand, if I gotta tangle with something like that it's gonna get a dose of Glock 31 or a .270 ballistic tip!
