Angry What is wrong with people?

So I have a bit of a crazy story that happened to me last night. Sorry about it being so long...

I was going to drop off my F250 at work and get a ride over to the dealership to pick up my F150 from some work I had done on it. I was driving throgh a not so nice area of the city and forgot to lock my doors. I was getting closse to the next turn on the way from my home to the office. I was driving in the left lane at this point with a car next to me in the right lane. I sped up a little bit so I could change lanes in front of him since he was barely going the speed limit. I made sure there was plenty of room since I had the tailgate spreader on the back and didn't want to clip his car. After changing lanes the other driver sped up and started riding my bumper, close enough that I couldn't even see the majority of his hood anymore over my tailgate. I tapped the brakes enough to turn on the lights but not even slow down. Usually people get the message and back off. After I let off he got even closer to the point that most of his windshield was hidden below the tailgate. So I sped up a little again and changed into the left lane again to let him by. He stayed right with me. So now I was getting a little worried about what he was going to do so I floored it. Needless to say, even with the 5.8 that truck couldn't get out of it's own way and he stayed right on my bumper yet again. We finally came up to a stop light where he finally got off my bumper and stopped about 20 feet from the car in front of him at the light. I figured he was done being and idiot. Unfortunately this is where it went from bad to worse.

The wackjob gets out of his car and comes over to my truck door. He opens my door and starts yelling and getting in my face while I'm in the truck. I told him to get thee **** out and tried to push him out of the truck. When I did this he started grabbing at me and I figured he would pull me out of the truck. I'm only 5'4" and 130 lbs, so I';m not able to put up a whole lot of fight against a guy who was at least 6ft tall and 200 lbs. When he did that I tried to jam the truck into reverse and floored it. This stupid things shifter is junk and hit park instead. When he heard the engine hit the rev limiter he started punching me and screaming. I managed to hold him back with my leg and get into reverse. When I shifted to reverse I was still holding the pedal to the floor and the truck jerked backward. He got hit by my door which was still open and grabbed on for dear life. I didn't stop until he fell off. At this point it looked like he could have fallen under my wheels(I hope he did). When he was off the door I got it back into drive and floored it. This guy got back in his car after he got up and started chasing me. We got to another red light with traffic and he started to get out of his car again. At this point I figured I was either ramming the car in front of me or driving over the median into oncoming traffic. Luckily the light changed to green and we were off again. He chased me through red lights and was cutting people off the whole way just to keep up with me. This went on for probably 6-7 miles.

After the first time he got out of his car I had already called the cops. I was on the phone with them the entire time he was chasing me. Finally when he realized I was on the phone he stopped and turned around. and took of in the other direction. Unfortunately he didn't have a front plate and I didn't stop for another 3 blocks just to be sure he wasn't still coming. About 10 minutes later a cop drives by and takes my information but says there isn't much they can do since it isn't their district. They called a car from the proper district which took a few more minutes to get there.

My mom was able to get there faster than the damn police. That's just not right...

So in the end they took a description of the guy and his car. But unless he's connected with some other crime they can't do much else.

Now I'm stuck with a truck with one bent door and possibly having to buy a new set of hinges and maybe even the entire door depending on the damage.

I'm just left wondering why a person would do something like this. Is it really that important that he was first in line while driving down a street? Or do brake lights just make him mad?

I know I probably shouldn't have hit the lights but he probably still would've followed me.

Sorry for the long post, just needed to vent.

Thanks for reading it.

I hear it all the time on the radio. It's actually one of my favorites too.

Ask yourself the same question. Was it worth going through all that just to be first? You could have slowed down and pulled in behind him (which is the proper thing to do). It doesn't justify what he did, nothing does, but he obviously felt you cut him off. Those road ragers are unpredictable, the slightest thing sets them off and they totally lose grip on reality.

Sorry you went through that, it's lucky he wasn't carrying a gun or knife.

Yes I could've slowed down, if I were to go 10 under the limite and then pull in behind him. I had already changed lanes once to go around him because he was going so slow. I can under stand going exactly the speed limit, but ~10 under is just too slow.

I believe he did have a weapon because just as I got it into reverse he started reaching for something at his waist.

As do I, unfortunately CCW isn't allowed in Wisconsin. Can't even get a permit for it. I could carry a gun on my side all day if I wanted but the second I get in a vehicle it has to be unloaded and put in a case out of reach. That then defeats the purpose.

Agreed, that's just pure nonsense there. Laws here in Ga are much different and you better bet I'm carrying if I'm in a legal area.

Ive had people get all jacked out of shape on a 2 lane road cuz I wasn't speeding fast enough. Speed limit was 65 I'm doing 70+ and they are flashing their bright lights, pass me and nearly take my front bumper off. Its ridiculous the way people act on the road. For some reason people feel like the road is a place to take out all the frustrations of their day.

I agree...

I hate when ppl ride my ***, can't stand it. I tap my brakes first as you did to let them kno that they're following too close and i don't like it. If they keep doing it, I stomp the damn break thru the floorboard. That's how i feel about it. Get off my ***, you know? It's like disrespectful driving or something!

I've had ppl get out of the car on me before, but they usually change their mind when i jump out of my car and they see i'm an athletic built 6'7" 220 pound younger guy. I love my size it's intimidating as hell to normal sized people. Lights my fuse when someone will try to jump out of their car and scare me or intimidate me.....But before anyone says anything, i kno that it isn't smart and i don't get out of the truck unless they get out of their vehicle. I actually have a friend who got shot when he got out of his car, but he was the one being stupid i'm pretty sure. He survived, it was just in the leg.

if it had been my truck, he would have either had a hole the size of a .40 bullet in him, or nice gapping slash from my knife.

ive had crap like that happen to me before. the first thing i did when they got out of the car was lock my doors. fortunately the cops were able to catch them, and they did some time. hope everything works out for you.

so why didn't you just floor it and go around the car in front of you?? or were you parked too close??? when you saw him coming how come you didn't lock your door???

obviously we can nit pick this to no end, the good thing is that no one was seriously injured, and everone went thier own way,

road rage gone wrong, time for a supercharger
