Maintain caution on Facebook
Back to the original question...
If you have a "Social Networking" site, then set it to "Private".
It's that simple.
It keeps the freaks out, unless that's what you want......
Even your photobucket account should be set to private and have the links "scrambled" so the pics don't link back and open up ALL of your albums.

I believe that they aren't really trying to find a prosecute underage drinking, but more about finding and prosecuting the suppliers of the booze. Kind of like the whole "Cops in shops" thing I don't see it being any different than that.
exactly!
But cops also catch pedophiles on line. I've seen a case like that happen locally. I think that was great.
Drinking, I've known very few people that haven't drank underage. It's kind of a normal part of growing up.
Back in the stone age, when I was young. We could hang out in town. Things are so policed now kids have to go out in the woods just to hang out. It is terrible, our society has come to a point where we can't even have a public gathering, without some a** wipe breaking the law and causing Cops to break it up.

I don't agree with the law against underage drinking. There's not some magical switch that turns on when you turn 21 that makes you a more responsible person. Nowadays when you turn 21 you probably drink more than you ever have in your life just to celebrate. The only thing I understand from setting an age limit is to prevent the irresponsible ones from buying alcohol at young ages. I know many people over 21, though, that are more immature and irresponsible than most of the people I know.
That being said, regardless of whether or not I agree with it, it is illegal. I admit to underage drinking. Had I been caught I would have faced the consequences. I'm willing to bet 90+% of college students have had alcohol while underage. It's a huge part of going to college, now.
That being said, if cops are posing as someone that they are not, they are violating Facebook's terms of use. Take a look at what I bolded:
Since what they are doing violates Facebook's terms of use I don't see how it could be used to prosecute. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the law could chime in. The only way I see them being able to prosecute is if they bust the stupid ones that leave their profiles public, in which case they don't even need fake profiles.
On another note, why bust underage drinking through Facebook? I am not a fan of Facebook as of late (turned into MySpace with all the add-on crap). Many people on there, though, have pictures of themselves at parties (one of my pet peeves but that's another story). If cops are trying to deter underage drinking through Facebook then they have a long way to go. Crime must be slow as of late.
Underage drinking a lack of parenting? Long story short my father is a POS and I hope to never see him again. He left my mom in serious debt and screwed her life up. She has raised me as a single mom since I was 8, despite serious financial troubles. I've never been arrested or in any serious trouble. I graduated in the top of my class and am studying Mechanical Engineering at one of America's top universities. She did a hell of a job with me and I drank underage. But I'll be sure to let her know she has a serious lack of parenting.

You can report a profile that violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities by clicking the "Report/Block this Person" link in the left column of the profile, selecting "Fake profile" as the reason, and adding the appropriate information. The following categories of profiles are prohibited on the site:
-Profiles that impersonate you or someone else
-Profiles that use your photos
-Profiles that list a fake name
-Profiles that do not represent a real person
-Profiles that have been hacked
Be sure to choose the correct report type to help us verify the information. Facebook reviews every report we receive in order to determine whether or not the content violates our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, and will take appropriate action. Rest assured that these reports will be kept confidential.

MBLOUIR: i agree with you statement about bad/lack of parenting. ive never been arrested, in any serious trouble, i graduated 22nd in a class of 142 and am in college now, its not a big one, yet, but atleast im there. my parents raised me right, and i guess since my family is from germany and their drinking age is WAY lower than the US they allow me to drink, never get drunk or any of that. and i sure as hell dont drive.

I can tell you from years of observation, and some experience, children growing up in the situation you described, quite often turn out to be much better people, than the ones that had two parents but were not taught responsibility.
Sound sappy? probably. True? Definitely
