Computer Guys, Help Me Identify This Virus Please
I'm sitting at my desk the other night, wifey is sleeping on the couch in the same room, and I received the following email from her computer. (So I know she didn't send it)
Here's a paste of what it said:

The "Click Here" was a hyperlink.
I just received the same email from another friend.
Do you guys know what this virus/worm is called, and how to treat it?
I've been unsuccessful in my online search.
Thanks
Habs

The ONLY thing I know to do with these things is to just delete them. And, make sure your antivirus and firewall programs are up to date.

I doubt you will be able to determine the issue by the content of the email...that part would be configurable and change easily particularly if it is a bot type of virus. Have you tried running a full scan with your AV software? That should grab it. Make sure your AV signatures are up to date.
You may also be able to determine something from the link that they sent...don't click it, just mouse over it and see where it points to then you can bing it and see what that says.

Thats not a worm or a virus per se - it's just spoofed spam. No threat to your computer unless you DO click on the link.

I don't know that it is spoofed spam if I am reading the OP correctly. Spoofed spam would be from a potentially valid email address and usually be either advertising or link to a malicious site but he said that it came from his wifes address the likelihood of the spoofer sending from someone he knows is next to nil. Seeing how he got it from two folks he knows I would say it is impossible. Sounds like his machine is the problem or the other two machines. Probability would point to it being the OP's machine since it is unlikely that two folks he knows getting the exact same virus. Sounds like something is fishing his contact list and sending stuff to him.
Any of the name brand antiviruses will do the job - including the "big 3" freebies - AVG, Avast, and Avira. However, the name brand Internet security suites all seem to have compatibility and footprint issues - Norton, McAfee, etc. NOTHING will protect you from your own stupidity - such as surfing for **** and "free" stuff that's not supposed to be free. If you are going to play with that crap, you are better off using a good imaging program such as Acronis True Image (legit free versions available from Seagate and Western Digital for use with their brand drives) and a good backup strategy. When things go to hell, wipe and restore the latest clean image.
