Just start going every day. I just got back from my run and all it takes is a mentality of not stopping and motivation to go every day. You will see results sooner or later and feel great! Good luck!

A nice warm up before you run will help prevent injury as well. When you are first starting out, a warm up is kind of hard to do since you can't run that far anyway. So if your distance is only 1-1.5 mile, then try to atleast warm up the legs by lightly jogging up the block and back a time or two to get the blood moving. Then stop, sip on some water, catch your breath, and start your run. Always time your runs to guage your progress over time. If you are running 1-2 miles, but they are going to be fast, make sure you warm up. I'm milking a knee sprain right now b/c I only had 15 minutes until kickoff, and wanted to get a quick 2 mile in. 15 minutes was plenty of time, but not enough for a proper warm up, and run. SO, I skipped the warm up, hopped right outside into 40 degree weather, with 15-30 mph wind and slight rain. Probably my hardest run to this date. I couldn't even breath. I made it back in time, but took forever for my lung pain to go away, and then the knee started hurting bad. Hopefully it will get better faster b/c I don't want to lose all my speed I've been working on.
Man, I really hate running.

I always felt like cross training (sprint/jog combo) was where I made the largest jumps and helped me the most. Like in practice we'd start at the leftfield foul pole, jog til left centerfield the sprint to right center field, jog to the rightfield foul pole, then sprint halfway across the outfield then jog back to the leftfield foul pole (once we got to the right field foul pole it would be like a straight line to the left field pole so kind of like a semi circle). Those always royally sucked and our warning track was kind of soft and our outfield grass seemed like it never got mowed. Plus on conditioning days (aka if it was raining outside or the field was too wet) we'd do latters of like 6, 8, 10, 12, 10, 8, 6. Down and back (full length of the basketball court) was 2. So we had like 30 seconds to do 6, 40 seconds for 8, 50 seconds for 5, and 1 minute for 12. Going up wasn't bad, coming back down is a different story. Then after that we'd jog for like 15 minutes around the track at out gym, sometimes while carrying 20 pound medicine ***** (passing it off each lap of course). Ahhhh the good ol memories of conditioning. I tell you what i hated/loved conditioning. I hated doing it at the time but as the season progressed I got into pretty good cardio shape then loved doing them. Damn I wish I wouldn't have gotten out of it. I enjoy running, as long as I'm in shape when I'm doing it...

So i've been taking supplements for the first time since this summer. Only Protein shakes and Creatine. Well I'm looking at getting off my creatine once it runs out. I've been only sparingly taking in creatine and taking in protein after workouts. Well I'm looking to get hardcore into supplements. So somehow I came across an ad for the movie 300 workout and what they took. Now granted I don't buy into that hype because it just isn't possible to get that freakin ripped in 4 weeks. Anyway they said their big secrete was Acai Berry which is in South America in the rainforests. So I was wondering anyone try any Acai Berry supplements?

Also I decided to a gander at GNC's online store and narrowed it down to some supplements I was wondering if Anyone has tried or ever reallly heard of. Here they are: USP Labs Anabolic Pump, USP Labs Recreate, and SNI BCAA Blast . I tried posting a link so the reading on them would be a little better but the links wouldn't work. So do you think these 3 products will help out any?

Sounds like there are a few of us looking to get back in shape... perhaps it's time for a new "Fat Guy" thread?

Granted I'm not an expert but in my several years of experience in weight lifting I'd say that you're only going to burn money with supplements like that "Acai Berry." Stick to the basics and that's all you need. Hell you don't even need whey since you can get it all from whole foods. If you depend on supplements to reach your goals then you need to work on your routine and diet first. If you're using them for that little bit extra, then let me say that the little bit of difference they make isn't worth the money you spend on them. Learn from my mistakes.

I've tried numerous supplements and only found a few that actually make a difference in either how I feel or in terms of results: Whey/Casein protein, Creatine, BCAAs, and Beta-Alanine. Personally those are the only supplements I'd spend money on, and that's when money is not scarce. Otherwise I only buy whey protein. The rest isn't needed and makes a negligible difference. Everyone's body is different, though, and responds to different things. What works for me may not work for you, and vice-versa. Trial-and-error. Do research on supplements (search the forums of bodybuilding.com) and get people's unbiased reviews. Go from there.

I am trimming out too. Down from 207 before the summer to 181-184. Getting more and more definition.

Like mblouir said. Don't waste your money. The only weight lifting supplement I would take it protein. Granted I take a joint supplement, but thats not for weight lifting. All the other supplements are pretty much crap, and don't do anything but empty your wallet. All that crap is going to cost a couple hundred every month, and give you nothing. Better off spending that $200 on the real stuff if thats your perogative. If you're having trouble gaining, its going to be your diet 99% of the time. You're just not eating enough. If you're a big guy, and having trouble losing, you're eating too much, and too unhealthy. Get your diet in check before you blow $$$ on a bunch of supplements.

Seriously think about it for a second. If any of these supplements like, "USP Labs Anabolic Pump or USP Labs Recreate" worked as claimed, they would be all over the news. I could give you a sugar pill, tell you it will boost your test, and give you better work outs. It ain't gonna happen, but some people think it will, and thats why there are 100 different supplements claiming to do the exact same thing. If one actually worked, they wouldn't have to make the other 99. But none of them work, so they keep trying to sell you on some, "New anabolic chemical make-up vitamin amino bol crap" so you'll buy it.

Steer clear of creatine too. Waste of money. It will make you look bigger, but once you stop taking it, all that water weight will just go away, and leave you where you would be without it. Energy boosters like NO Xplode will for sure give you an energy boost, but you don't need that crap either. Plus you'll get dependent on it, and your workouts without it will drag.

Just lift smart, keep the routine changing. Eat good, and a lot. If the food is too much, supp in some protein shakes. Thats the secret right there. No magic pill, no secret powder.
No matter what you do though, if you're trying to look like those guys in the magazine ads selling stuff, no supplement will get you there. Those guys are on the juice, and thats the only way to get like that, no matter what bs anyone else tries to sell you.

Last but not least. Stay away from GNC. That place is way over priced and usually staffed buy complete idiots, that only know what the label says. Much better places to buy from then them.

Exactly why I was asking if anyone has used them before. Ya I have winged myself off of creatine for the most part, I take it every now and then but it seems like everytime I take it, after my work-out it seems like my body just quits produceing my ATP's and I fell like I need a nap. I can honestly say I've hit a level spot in my gains as far as jumping up weights. I haven't been able to gain hardly any on my bench for a few weeks now, same with curls and what not. I really need to find some new workouts. I think My body has just become accustomed to the same ol routine (although I do switch up like what day I do what). I was really wanting to only try the BCAA, since it seems like I've say BCAA several places before, maybe in Biology class. Its kind of nice taking Biology and knowing what your body needs and everything. But ya I have no intentions of looking like Jay Cutler at all. In fact I'd never want to be that big. I'm looking to get those six pack abs and chissled arms. Even at 160-170 pounds I can't get my arms to look jacked untill I flex, then its like whoa! But I know how to get the whole ab thing, its in your diet. Eveyone has abs you just need to remove the layer of fat that covers them. Well diet isn't the easiest thing for me. I got onto counting my calories and watching what I eat and cut all sugary drinks out. Then about a week to 2 weeks after I was back to eating what I wanted. I've cut all sugary drinks out of my diet and drink only water now of days and have for about a month now. I think I have enough creatine to make maybe one or two more drinks then I'm with that crap.

Brings me to another question. I've always bought Body Fortress Protein (like $20 for a 2Lb jug). Is there really a difference in the cheaper supplements like Body Fortress and the more expensive ($60+) protein powders?

Taste, although a lot of the times the expensive ones taste like crap, too.

If I had to pick only two staple supplements, I'd pick whey protein and BCAAs. I notice a difference in recovery time and my endurance/energy overall. Bulk powder is the cheapest way to get most supplements, but mix them with something because plain they taste like crap.

When you buy BCAAs look for Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucene. I haven't bought BCAAs in a while but when I do I buy Xtend, mainly for the flavoring. It's expensive but the flavoring saves me having to buy that separate. Bulk powder generally tastes like butt. I'd take 4-6 scoops in a protein bottle for my workout and 8-10 scoops in a 1/2 gallon jug and sip throughout the day. Unlike a lot of other supplements, BCAAs are legit. If you want to save $$ buy Optimum brand bulk powder as it will last the longest.

Once again, though, it's nothing you can't get from whole foods.

Yea, I would just stick to optimun nutrition protein. It cost the same as the walmart protein in the same size jug. ON stuff taste real good too, and mixes really well. Im on cookies and cream right now. Chocolate was getting old. Don't get strawberry though, unless you have another jug of something else b/c strawberry loses its yummy after 1 week of drinking it.

Diet is easy man. I was never into the whole calorie counting crap. Im sure if I did count I could of got some more gains, but Im in it for a fitness level, not to look like a bb'er. Abs are just a perk of the diet and training as I rarely do situps. I just eat clean/natural foods. None of my meals are ever prepared in a microwave. Not many processed foods. All proteins are fresh, and cooked by me. Vegetables too. Occasional canned vegy. Stuff like rice, bread, wraps, though I would of course buy already made. I only get the whoel grain stuff though. No enriched bleached stuff. Cereals are oat based, with no wierd chemical names in the ingredients. Trust me, I eat good. And I eat a lot. But I was doing 2 a days 5+ days a week. Endurance cardio at least 3-4 of those days. So I burned a lot. I had abs and hadn't done a situp in over 2 months. The only supplement I took during this time was protein.
I say "was" b/c Im in the middle of moving. So Im on vacation right now, and dont have a gym, so my workouts are slacking, but my diet is still pretty good, so Im not fat yet.
