Road Cycling

Anyone here also into road cycling?

Just picked up a new Surly Steamroller single-speed.

What do you ride?

Been mountain biking basically since I was born. Have been road biking for about the past 8 years. And have been doing Triathlons for the past two years.

Road/Tri bike is a 2005 Lemond Alpe D'Huez. Mountain bike is a 2004 Trek hardtail.

I'm not into the triathlon stuff, but mountain biking is fun as hell!

But, barefoot mountain biking?

Edit: Oops, I just noticed - Kansas! The highest peak there is what, about 27 feet? Sorry, kansasflareside, I just couldn't resist that - and you look to be in great shape, bro!

Another Trek hard tail here, no road biking. Always wanted to but I dumped a lot of money (for me) into my 6700. Also prefer singletrack. So relaxing.

Maybe next bike will be road.

27 feet is pretty close. But in Kansas, its not the hills that get you, its the wind and crazy weather. The day of this triathlon (early may), it was 45 degrees and we had a 30mph head wind on the bike out. I averaged 13mph on the first half of the bike, and 36 on the second half. Talk about a killer wind.

As for the shoes, I have them clipped into my pedals before the bike, putting them on as I go. I also leave them clipped in when I finish. This saves 2-5 min off your total time since youre moving instead of stationary when putting your shoes on/off. It's also basically impossible to run in CF shoes for the 50 yards from the transition area to where you can mount your bike.

Not to mention your "standard" killer tornado that comes whipping in, eh? But, a 30 mph headwind has got to just beat you all to hell.

Now THAT I never knew about! Pretty ingenious! Thanks for educating me.

Does your Surly have a flip flop hub? If so, do you use the single speed side or the fixed side?
Enjoy the ride, Surly is a respected name in fixies and singles.

I've got an older Raleigh road bike that I've converted to fixed. I've also got several road bikes( Serotta Ti, Kestrel, Cannondale, Santana etc.) and a couple of mountain bikes (Trek, Cannondale).

I have a Raleigh that was a hybrid but is now more of a sports-fitness bike ---many upgades. I try to commute to school as often as I can.

I've got a:

Motobecane road bike full ultegra custom wheels with about 4000 miles on it. This bike weighs less than 16 lbs (without repair kit)

Also have a Cayne fixie (single speed) that I use around town.

And, a Trek Hardtail, with a second wheelset with slicks on it.
