I didn't show it to my students; we were reading and discussing Beowulf. But I did watch it alone during lunch...I really didn't see a problem with what he said. Laura Bush said it was a good idea; so did Newt Gingrich...geez, I didn't even get to use my super-duper ultra secret liberal decoder ring.

More or less it was, "Stay in school, work hard, and don't deal with excuses...your future is up to you."

Bush did it: Reagan did it---and now Obama did it. Please tell me where the evil propaganda was?

i wonder if they are still harvesting emails and info when the site is clicked on.

i gave my kids a note to give to the teacher that said under no terms are they to watch the video. if there is a problem call me and ill come get them.

Would this have been the message had there not been a backlash? I have read that a video was removed and the speech was modified. We will never know the truth. At least, he and his staff are aware that they are being watched.

I tried to shut it down as quickly as possible but, it was too late and I was indoctrinated.

The problem was with the lesson plan he was trying to push along with some phrases in his ORIGINAL speech. I watched the speech today before work, thought it was a good message.


On a side note it seems the elder Bush actually got investigated for his speech, gotta love it....

lol.. well.. you all failed.. if yall would have just kept your mouth shut.. and let Obama give the socalled "un-edited" speech the first time around maybe you would have had something to actually be upset about..

fact of the matter is.. it was just a speech about the need for kids to stay in school.. get over it already..

 

I highly doubt there was anything controversial in the "original" speech. I'm beginning to doubt that there ever was an "original," and that they released the draft just so that people would see that there was nothing "socialist." If there were an "original" out there with socialist tones, it would be posted on the internet. But I've yet to find a copy.

And as for the speech he apparently gave today, it's something you would imagine to hear even from the mouth of Reagan.

The original speech was scrapped; the original study-guide matched the original speech.

What was said today seemed more than out of place, than the study-guide. In America today, we have a President, that insists, the government is the only one smart enough to save America and its people from itself: Health Care, broken – complete transformation required; Banking Industry, broken – more regulation and agencies required along with “consumer protection” which will just drive-up costs and limit lending further; Automotive Industry; Ford/GM/Chrysler, not making cars Americans want to buy put them out of business, (and not the crippling labor contracts?)

I could go on, but my point is, he gave a very conservative speech, basically “sky is the limit” you, yourself set your own boundaries and/or possibilities, yet when you get to the age of voting, “don’t worry, vote for me, I’ll do everything for you” (just don’t forget to keep voting for me) which is basically the entire platform of the democratic party. “Take from the rich give to the poor”.
