I was told that the Prez was going to say something about a girl that lived in Roma, Texas. About her success story from starting school knowing no English to getting a scholarship from Brown University. Roma, Texas, close to where I live.

I read the speech yesterday. It was encouraging. It basicly said the exact opposite of what he tells the rest of the people in this country. He tells the kids that the skys the limit while he tells us that we aren't smart enough to take care of ourselves and that government is the only entity that can.

It's like two Americas!

Maybe he's not a socialist after all and just has a split personality.

I was getting subliminal messages when I heard the speech. I felt him talking and we are doomed, just totally doomed.

What was said today seemed more than out of place, than the study-guide. In America today, we have a President, that insists, the government is the only one smart enough to save America and its people from itself: Health Care, broken – complete transformation required; Banking Industry, broken – more regulation and agencies required along with “consumer protection” which will just drive-up costs and limit lending further; Automotive Industry; Ford/GM/Chrysler, not making cars Americans want to buy put them out of business, (and not the crippling labor contracts?)

I could go on, but my point is, he gave a very conservative speech, basically “sky is the limit” you, yourself set your own boundaries and/or possibilities, yet when you get to the age of voting, “don’t worry, vote for me, I’ll do everything for you” (just don’t forget to keep voting for me) which is basically the entire platform of the democratic party. “Take from the rich give to the poor”.
"I could go on"? "I could go on"? You beat the proverbial dead horse...what was said was what was said. No more. The rest of the words are yours...and I didn't see them or hear them today from the prez today---yours is merely conjecture---or wishful thinking, hoping that he would say that so you could rip him...no ammunition there...

I loved the part where he said 200 years ago, those sitting there started a revolution. I hope those that saw today are ready to start a revolution.

I watched it, and so did my kid. I didn't send a note, I figured she would put her .02 cents when he was talking and she did. There were some "Mack Daddy" supporters in her class and she gave it to em.

Now If I could just get her to read "The Road to Serfdom" or "Economics in One Lesson" I would be happy.

The thing that gets me, is how they all slobber over him. Some women gave a speach before he did, I wanted to barf.

"Economics in One Lesson". Been wanting to read that this year, but after "America's Great Depression" and "Human Action", I've had enough of economics until 2010.

WOW, stuck a cord huh!?

Lets go back to what I said ........

1) The original speech was scrapped; the original study-guide matched the original speech. Opinion or Fact? We'll never know, for the sake of your sanity, lets call it opinion, mine. However, what we do know is the study-guide was disseminated last week, the verbiage had many people react negatively, many outraged, questioning the motive.

2) .... my point is, he gave a very conservative speech, basically “sky is the limit” you, yourself set your own boundaries and/or possibilities .... Opinion or Fact? Fact, actually the speech had a very conservative tone.

So in conclusion:
A) You have a speech that didn't match the study guide. (by design or because the speech was changed?)
B) A President, that has been campaigning and promising EVERYONE EVERYTHING, and that only the government can do it for you. (Still campaigning today, some 31 months, since it started, even though he's already been elected)
C) Many questionable things have been done, so early in his Presidency of which just a few I listed, (I'd love a debate with you on his policies and actions) is the reason you have parents across America on alert, because they have had US and World history, they understand our world and our economy, something students should get a grasp on themselves, so they can come to their own decisions vs. believing what someone tells them, just because that person is important.

I heard this today, on the radio, at what age do you think you can share this with a class of students and get half or more of them to comprehend it?

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."
- Abraham Lincoln

It is a speech telling the kids to grow a pair and take responsibilities into their own hands. Im a strong republican and this didn't bother me at all. Grow up a little and stop finding stuff to complain about.

You base all your conclusions on your opinion. I've had a small group of professional educators (K-12 environment) look at the study guide and found nothing offensive or politically motivated within it's content.
We've had the local Republican committee condemn our decision to allow freedom of choice to either view or not view the presentation.
We've had the local Democratic committee try to force the issue to view as a mandatory activity.
Eliminating the extremes (political committee members) the overwhelming majority of people contacting me via email and phone calls supported the position we took allowing for optional viewing. All concluded it was the President of OUR United States of America speaking.

Does any of this "stuck a cord"? (please Lord let there be reason buried within those politically motivated ramblings.)

There were edits to the speech and lesson plans. The white house even put out an apology and said they reworded the speech/lesson plans to better reflect the message they were trying to express.

It had to something to with how the kids can best serve the President. Unfortunately I never copied the original lessons plans, just viewed them on the whitehouse.gov website. I'm sure you can find all that information if you looked.

Even then I still found some things about the speech I wasn't to pleased about, but it was just nitpicking and overall the speech got a clear message. The President and his staff aren't morons, they are VERY clever. I knew controversy was going to happen as soon as I heard he was doing a speech and nothing would come of it in the end..

Yikes, OK – now I’m confused, you’ve picked your side and made it clear, I’m fine with that, I’m also just glad you comprehended my quote:

Is it your opinion that “a small group of professional ("public" aka government) educators (K-12 environment)” is an unbiased slice of Americana?

Is it also your opinion that, I based my conclusion on all my own opinions?(quoting you) “You base all your conclusions on your opinion”

In reality, I had one opinion, and it was based on reality & facts; I did not state my opinion as a fact.

Thanks FATHERFORD, Sheesh, for a second there I thought I was the one over-reacting …….

Maybe we should all just have a beer on the lawn and "agree to disagree"

Can you possibly post a copy of the "study guide." I cannot find it anywhere.
