This is not true. Seagate had issues that was limited to their 1.5TB Barracuda ES.2 drives LAST SUMMER and the issue has been resolved since LAST FALL. This firmware issue did not affect other drives. All Seagate SATA drives come with 5 year warranties, and Seagate does a great job and handling any replacements (including advanced replacement).
I wish this were the case. You have missed quite a bit.

That's a lot more than just the 1.5tb ES2's. I've personally had to deal with quite a few dead 7200.11's this year.

None of the Barracuda 7200.xx drives come with a 5 year warranty any more. They shortened that to 3 years right after the first of the year. The ES2's may still be 5 years, but I'm not sure.

I have no quarrel with Seagate's support - but I haven't had any problems with WD's support either.

Bottom line, RIGHT NOW the WD Caviar Black is a better drive than a Seagate 7200.11, which is its direct competition. ES2's are considerably more expensive for the same capacity, but they compete with the WD RE's, not the Caviars. Those are enterprise drives, designed for servers and RAID arrays.
