A wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman.



Ok I said it.

You think I'd have a chance in hell of getting on the supreme court after a comment like that????

The double standard is sickening.

Sotomayor about to become the next Supreme Court Justice

Yes. If you've got a background as distinguished as hers, there is no way you wouldn't get in.

I haven't really been following that whole thing about Sotomayer....

But what I think is funny {well not really, but just as a matter of speaking} is that you have gotten zero replies.... before this one anyway, about such a politically hot topic.
{okay; I see RileyDog was typing at the same time I was, but anyway}

And the reason is obvious > Because people are afraid to talk about race !

WHY ?!?!

I talk about..... have fun with..... celebrate.... all different cultures / races / skin colors, all the time !

Funny story from last week;

One of the cute little Mexican girls I work with (who has a black boyfriend) kind of slightly overcooked a pizza. It wasn't really burnt... just well done. So she asks me, "Do you think this is burnt" ? I told her, "Nahhh... just pretty well done". To which she replies, "Well.... Some people like em' dark". To which I pop off with, "Yea', huh.... you like em' dark, right" ?
No, she wasn't mad {even though she hit my arm and told me to shut up.... just because she knew I was playing with her. But suffice it to say, the rest of our day went great}.

Anyway, their are people who would say that was racist. I say, "Screw those people" ! Those people are only helping to keep tensions tight, while I'm telling people to loosen the eff up !
We are all different. Get used to it. Enjoy it.

I agree with ya Chris but you do know that if the wrong person overheard you say something like that they could make your life a living hell with the HR department. If not get ya fired.:o

Well, it depends on were you work but it's sad but true.

Scalia was voted in unanimously, and he doesn't have the (legal) background Sotomayor does. Her history is full, and proven. She is fairly middle of the road on property rights, free speech and search & seizure rights.

I don't think you get it.

I'm not saying that she isn't qualified.

I'm saying that if I, being a white male, would have her qualifictions, background, experience, etc., and made the comment above, I would have no chance of getting a seat on the supreme court.

I would be labled as a bigot and been thrown out before a hearing was ever dreamed up.

Add to that she has been overruled in almost half her decisions!!!!! Once she is confirmed NOBODY can overrule her. Does that not scare anyone?

I don't know how many times she has been over-ruled. The MSN article did say this though.

Kohl noted, for example, that in 17 years as a trial and appeals court judge, Sotomayor had rarely been overturned by the Supreme Court.
Of course that could mean that she was overturned by other judges, when possible, but not the supreme court.

I don't know.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want her in either.

I think she will judge with prejudice and try to push her liberal views.

The headline on MSN is "Sotomayor denies racial bias"

If this was a white male judge and "racial bias" was in question, you would have Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and who know who else all over the TV speaking how horrible it is that we are going to confirm this white male judge who has shown racial bias.

Just the simple fact that people are questioning her racial bias and that she has gotten this far, shows the double standard.

The same type of double standard that the Supreme Court recently ruled against with the CT firefighters decision. The same lawsuit which Sotomayor ruled against the firefighters on as an appellate(?) court judge.

She has been reversed on about 60% of her cases that make it to the SCOTUS. That is below average.

Look at Clarence Thomas. He allegedly sexually harassed a chick and still got the job. While Rush Limbaugh and other morons may use the misspoken sentence as a way to earn money, most Senate Republicans will see past the drivel of Rush.

The only thing to worry about is that she, like the somewhat right leaning Sandra Day O'Connor, believe racism is A-OK for another 25 years. If you're going to criticize something, make an argument with substance.

Dude, what is your problem? The double standard is there because of the RICHNESS of the white mans experience. The white man has held the poor minorities down for way too long. The white man is no longer in charge. Finally, justice will be served.

Don't you get it? It's not about experience, or if someone is qualified. Now it's about fairness. There have been too many whites succeeding. The time has come to let minorities succeed. If a minority can't compete, then the bar will be lowered so that they too can succeed. It doesn't matter if a white person is the most qualified. Whites have been the oppressors for centuries and it's finally payback time.

Are you blind? Apparently you haven't realized that a diverse society isn't one that is "color blind". No, a diverse society is one that labels everyone so that they can be put in categories. The time has come to seperate everyone in to smaller and smaller groups so that we can clearly see who we should prop up and who we should tear down.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, right? Well, the Constitution is a living, breathing document. I guess that would make the Declaration of Independence the same? Well, now that the oppressed are in charge, there will be a change to these truths we hold that are self evident. All men are not created equal. Some just shouldn't have to work so hard to succeed. That is why it's no longer the PURSUIT of happiness, it is the gaurentee of happiness that is now an unalienable right.

White people just need to chill out. Sit back for a while. You're going to have to take a back seat because no matter how much of an over achiever you are, there are others who want to succeed too.

I'm sure that Sotomayor will make a fine, empathetic supreme court justice.

Agreed, the usual suspects, to include MALDEF would be vilifying said, white guy if the shoe had been on a white guy's foot. I've said that from the beginning of this BS.

'They' have supported Sotomayor saying she did exactly what the Court of Appeals is supposed to do in the case of the CT firefighters even though the lower court's ruling was incredibly flawed.

My understanding is the Appeals Court is only supposed to rule on whether or not the lower court followed the appropriate procedure without respect to validity of the actual ruling, 'they review decisions of trial courts for errors of law'.

But hey, if you can't get enough minorities to pass your test just throw the test out! Glad the guys in CT got that overturned. If we ever want to see true 'color blindness' the libs will have to accept that a merit based system is the ONLY solution.
