I'll have to see where the gas I buy comes from - I'm not sure. This sounds like a good idea to me - wonder if it will work?

The only problem is that the town I live in has more MObil stations than anything and they are all cheaper. The Shell stations are almost all owned by diaperheads now and there is only a few of the other brands like Amoco, Texaco, Hess. There are quite a few Citgos but they are priced about the same as Mobil.
I don't know what price your paying?? We are now at $1.79 to $1.87 a gallon. I would be thrilled with 1.49, but that's probably what the oil companies have in mind!

We don't have any of those brands here. This is BP/Shell land with the occassional Swifty lol. Know that I've seen that email a few places on the internet already I'm starting to think that "Katherine Doyle" of the WASHTENAW COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION IS Department no longer works there or has been reminded of proper use of gov't email systems

hey, i recieved this email a couple of weeks ago and it sounds like a pretty good idea, but i really dont think it would work. i think it would create more of a roller coaster affect because the second exxon/mobil started lowering their prices, people would start buying their gas again so it would just go back up . . .

These things never work. 65%-75% of our crude oil is imported from the Middle East. This oil goes to all the different companies. If a small number of people dont buy from one company it wont affect anything. Your still buying the imported goods from other companies. Also, often times you dont know where the gas you bought comes from. Here in Delaware Citgo stations sell Texaco or Shell gas. OPEC nations wont lose customers.

Around here, all of the gas comes through Williams Bros. Pipeline. The only difference between brands is the additives that are mixed in the gas when the tankers are being filled. I'm paying $1.67 for 89 octane gasahol.

the thing that would be nice is if our state took off the gas tax. Out gas tax is like 37.5cents a gallon or something... that would make it alot cheaper. its a 1.92 a gallon for 87... (michigan)
Indiana suspended their gas tax last year for a period of time. I don't think it helped much, the prices were still within a few cents of the prices in Ohio. The dealers just got richer.

you want to lower the price of gas, DRIVE LESS... CARPOOL... RIDE YOUR DAMN BIKE. Mobil and Exxon don't set the prices and you saying they do makes you look like an absolute idiot. The fact of the matter is you have diminishing supply, increasing demand, as well as the effect of inflation. Say you were paying $1.20 10 years ago, now your paying $1.80. Well, look at what kind of car you could get 10 years ago for $10,000... a pretty decent one! Now look at what you can get for $10,000... yeah, thats called inflation. I heard a statistic a while ago that 20 years ago, adjusted for inflation, americans were paying $5 a gallon for gas. Why? Because gas was $1 a gallon, but the average household salary was around $15,000. Now the average household salary is around $50,000. ITS CALLED INFLATION.
Sorry for the harsh tone but I get so pissed at people constantly trying to "overthrow the evil dictatorship known as the oil industry" because they think they are paying too damn much for gas. Sorry but your not paying too much for gas. If you don't have enough money for gas then maybe you need to re-evaluate your budget. Rather then living in a $1500 a month home, driving a $500 a month car, try moving into a smaller home and trading in yoru car for a cheaper version.
You want them to take off the state tax? Thats fine, but forget about driving on nice paved roads since they won't have the money to fix cracks, repair potholes, etc.
