It is nice to see people getting involved in the post but you are not getting the point when is the last time you went to the store to get a quart of oil, much was it? okay now how much is in now and how much was it 5 years ago. We may be running low on oil but I dont see the price of quart of oil going up. And the main fact I am trying to put across is that companies or joining together and they do have a say in prices just like any other company that makes products. If you didnt know where I live the make the damn **** and gas is more expensive there then where my deer lease is in the middle of nowhere. Now how lodgical is that. Well where I live there is plenty of money to buy the gas and where my lease is they are nothing but goat ranchers. So the gas companies are not doing anything but monopolysing the markets by zoning them. So I am just pissed that I have to pay more for gas now then just two months ago. Oh one more thing explain to me how it is justified that in the summer prices of gas go up and the winter down. And dont say it is because supply and demand because its not. When is last time you saw a gas station out of gas.

Ok I guess I am through for now. Just think about it guys.

Do you know where gas comes from? It's not produced at the gas station... there is some sultan in some far away country who goes out to his backyard and turns a crank to slow production, and the world crumbles to their knees begging him to turn it back. Are gas companies charging extra to make extra profit? Of course, they are a business. My merging they are making their business more efficient and hence making MORE profit. If you don't like it, try buying stock in mobil rather then boycotting them, at least then you'd get a return on your investment. A gas station being out of gas? This theory is the same as the old woman who said that gas doesn't cost her more, since she always puts $20 in.

Thinking that you are going to bring a multi-billion dollar oil company to its knees by going to another gas station will have no effect. Even if you go to a non-mobil gas station, you still are quite possibly buying Mobil gas.

Good replies Matt! I like your inflation point. I started driving in 1983 when gas was around $1.25, now 18 years later it's $1.75 per gallon. I made $3.35/hour then. Lets just say I make a lot more than that now. The only way to get the prices down is to quit using so much power/gas. That stupid email is probably from someone trying to affect the stock price.

I dont know how anyone can complain when a half gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of gas. And milk doesnt need a refinery and thousands of employees.

well I won't ramble too much because I hate being the rambling politician, LOL.
I will say that there is no problem with wanting to lower gas prices. I have just gotten so pissed lately about hearing "Bush isn't doing anything to lower the price of gas" and "boycott mobil and exxon to lower the price of gas". The only reason that Clinton seemed to be doing anything to lower the price of gas was because he was dipping into the federal oil reserve which was supposed to support our nation in an emergancy. (FYI: At our current consumption, the federal oil reserve has about enough to last our entire nation about a week or two). Bush "not doing" anything means hes not taking the Clinton way out and cheating by dipping into the nations reserves, or by bombing some other country to draw attention to that rather then oil prices.
If you want to take down Mobil Exxon, don't just boycott them, boycott other oil companies as well. Drive less.
Everyone hates Microsoft, yet they use Windows, Office, and various Microsoft games. Everyone got all pissed when they found out Microsoft was originally going to charge like $45 for Windows, then they figured they could charge $90, so they charged $90. I say good for Microsoft, they are a great business and they make their employees and owners wealthy. Good for them. Bill Gates has donated more money in the last year to fighting international sicknesses then all the governments of the world combined, over the last TEN years. Hell I see giving an extra $45 as a charitable donation.

Exclamation

I have to agree with mattbert. It won't help to boycott only the Big 2 - all of them need to feel a blow to their profits. I already do curtail my driving as much as possible. I guess we'll have to see how this all turns out.

I'm sure all of you remember the deal when the News posted the CEO profits from each major gas company, and found that Mobil/Exxon was getting the most money in his pocket. At the same time, many people have started the ESSO boycot, and buy from other places (myself included--I use Diamond Shamrock/Valero) If a vast # of people will boycott ESSO's subsidaries (Mobil-Exxon, etc), they will, as the thread starter says, be forced to reduce prices. In my area, many of the people have started doing this, and the Mobil-Exxon has reduced about 5 cents to match Valero. We're still holding out-- we want the prices to be at least 5 cents less than the V before we go back.

And, yes, this thread is ANCIENT!. I think it was in my history book in grade school...

Gas prices are just supply and demand, basic economics. I get buzzed daily by college kids in their daddy's dodge with the straight pipes and tuners. And they stop every other block to fill up.

There are more drivers on the road now that there ever was before. The U.S. hasn't built a new refinery in more than 30 years. And the old ones we have are inefficient and are breaking down and blowing up.

And even in the face on $3.oo+/gal, there is still no shortage of people needing gas.

We could drill more in the gulf and Alaska but we wouldn't notice any benefit for years, mainly because of refining capacity. Even with all the oil in the world, it doesnt matter if you cant make gas out of it.

And blaming it on big oil is not the answer either. "But Exxon/Mobil had record profits!" Yes but their profit margin did not change, which is still about 10% the last time I looked.

Everyone is just looking for someone to blame besides themselves. Sure gas is high. But did you just lift your truck? Bigger tires? Tuner? Supercharger? Nitrous? If you are even here with a truck that YOU bought than you cant complain too much.

If you are worried so much about gas prices, get a TDI VW Beetle. My wife gets 38 mpg in the city, and it was about 5 grand less than a hybrid.

Now, time for my sig that is not 500 x 100 compliant.
