sucks getting old
had both my kidneys repaired with two different surgeries both before i was a year old..
that said, i have had no problems with them, and live a normal life... I still have the two scars on my sides from where they went in though..
do not be afraid of a transplant, you only need one to live, so one good one could hold you over till you croak... my mom has had one kidney for over 40 years...
keep your head up

I only have one kidney. I was only born with one. Havnt had any issues at all. Other than not being able to play contact sports (football, etc). Mine is twice the size of a normal kidney though. Haha.
Jim, I've never known anyone with kidney problems so I can't offer you any sage advice. I will offer friendship, thoughts, prayers and a kick in the *** if you don't beat this thing!!
Love ya sweetie!

Well the battle continues with these dam kidneys and now i am at 11% and have to go in for surgery to have a port put in my left arm for dialysis when the need arrives. Surgery is to be on nov 9th and i will be off work for 2-3 weeks. I have never missed work for any reason other than vacation so this will be weird for me. I am so not looking forward to next tuesday i have never had surgery and was hoping it would never come to this but here i am. Oh well life goes on. I did get some good news i think when they said i can do dialysis at home with a machine called Nx stage. here is a pic (not mine) of the procedure..

wish me luck......

I had never had surgery before either until I had it for the big "C" four years ago.
Here are a few things I learned from surgery.
A: On a scale of 1-10, my tolerance for pain is "negative 5".
B: General anesthesia and me don't get along. The average time to come out of it was supposed to be 90 mins or so . . . was 6 hours for me (they were kinda freaked out) - plus I was sick for about a week after from the effects.
C: Those staples to close the surgery incision . . . pulling those things out is no fun (see "A").
D: You can say funny things when they are putting you under. The anesthesiologist had given me a shot to prep me and a bit after that my surgeon's surgical nurse came in to inform me of what would happen. She was HOT. And this wasn't the drugs, she was freaking HOT. So after she explained everything to me she asked "Do you have any questions?" I said "Yes. Are you married? I think you're beautiful. I think I love you." and that was the last thing I remember before waking up to a slightly panicked group of doctors and whatnot thinking I had gone comatose.
And in case you're wondering, she was married.
Seriously. HOT
It's all gonna be good dude. Hang tight. I'll be thinking of you. (No, not in that way.)
I also took a tour of the dialysis center and i was touched by the many folks in there with the dam needles stuck in them and bllod flowing everywhere. It freaked me out and i had to leave and go outside for a minute. All these folks were in there 70's at least and here i am standing there and i have to say i felt so bad for these folks. They all looked like deer in the headlights and it freaked me big time. I got some composure and went back in and continued with the visit. They are going to give me a home unit so i won't have to go there 3-4 days a week doe 5hrs each time.... Thanks everyone...
If you have your health you already have everything.....

good luck, Bucky. I'm mentally projecting a lot of good karma your way.
Watch out for the male nurses. Or rather, maybe they should be watching out for you...

My Dad is to get one of the ports soon. He went to the VA to get one this Month, but all they did was xrays and Nuclear scans. I wasn't with him on this trip, so I didn't get all of the details. But he is to go back later to get the port.
He is also Diabetic which is complicating the problem.. But he is older nd will not stick to his diet, so I'm not really sure what is next.
Hang in there. I did tour the Renal Clinic, and is is kind of scary with all of those machines everywhere. When I saw all of those jugs of saline or whatever it is, I had to asked if they pumped that into them. Was kind of relieved when the nurse told me they didn't. That it was just used to filter the blood.
