Tiger Woods!
truckluver,
Great post. You hit the nail on the head. Glad someone agrees with me. I was starting to feel ganged up on.
I think the biggest part of his game that he has improved on is his mental toughness. The reason Michelson has not been able to win the big one is that he gets frustrated after a bad shot and lets it get to him resulting in more bad shots.
It is difficult to play under all of that pressure and Tiger almost always pulls through.
I agree that if Tiger played basketball as much as Jordan plays golf he could score a few points on him. Tiger would kill him on the golf course. Jordan has said before that he would like to join the tour but he has a long way to go to get there. That was a long time ago so maybe he gave up. Jordan is by far a better athlete physically but Tiger is one of the toughest competitors I have ever seen in any sport.
By the way, I played in my league last night against a guy who could probably bench press twice what I can and he never hit it further than me off the tee and I beat him by 4 storkes for 9 hole, even though he was a 2 handicap and I am a 4.
Strength is not everything! It is all about form.

I have a Tiger question:
I've heard that Tiger's father would do things like clap his hands and rattle clubs while Tiger was swinging or putting to strengthen his mental toughness. Why then does he have to stop in midswing when a camera shutter clicks?

I have wondered the same thing. I think he stops just to make the person feels like a jerk. He probably wants to point out that they should not be taking pictures until after a golfer hits the ball. Clapping does not seems to phase him but he gets pissed when a camera goes off.
I don't really know why he does that either. Before he actually hits the ball, he is so focused that anything could happen and it wouldn't phase him. If someone is on another hole and tey start clapping, he does proceed to hit the ball. But it did happen on the 17th hole when the guy in the gallery took a picture and he stopped in mid sentence. It doesn't bother him, but if he hears the sudder release, that means he is thinking about it. His attention turns towards that instead of his swing, and it shows great control that he is able to stop in mid-swing and glare at the person. I think he is just regaining his focus.

Blue and truck ... do not get me wrong here, I am not slamming Tiger or the great game of golf (I have a 6 handicap).
I'm just saying, knowing golf and several other sport (lacross, football, softball and extreme fighting) that golf is not as athletic a sport you guys are making it out to be.
I can't remember who said it, but paraphrasing:
I agree with that statement and I feel the frustration that you guys are displaying. No, not being ganged up, just placing things into perspective here.
I still agree, Tiger is the greatest player to the sport of golf now.

Another saying..."Golf is a good walk spoiled." I'll spoil that walk every chance I get!
Do they allow cameras on these courses? They shouldn't. No cell phones either.
Yes, golf is a different kind of sport. I still play baseball; I love it. I play golf; I love it. The difference makes no difference to me. Different talents, the same enjoyment.

Oh...Mark Twain said that...
I would just like to go one day without having to hear about Tiger Woods. Seem like I cannot watch TV or read anything without hearing or seeing his picture. He is a great golfer no doubt...but I watch golf tournaments on the tube to see ALL golfers. Tiger could be 10 strokes back on the leader board, and all you hear about is how he is doing. NBC's golf coverage is the worst...they will show Tiger talking to his caddy while waiting to hit, or picking his nose or pulling his pants out of his butt instead of showing another golfer. Gimme a break.
The camera's follow the money. Tiger is the money right now. Guess who pays for the airtime? {hint--the networks aren't and neither is Tiger}
The Bulls games had the same problem. Close ups were normally on MJ, but since the nature of basketball is to follow the ball, it was tougher to do.

Like Tiger or not, he is personally (all by himself) responsible for almost doubling (in some cases doubling or more) the purses every weekend for these golfers. He's money in the bank and was recently named as the most recognizable athlete in the world.
I get tired of the endless Tiger stuff too, but there's no denying his affect on the game, whether talking about elevating the game itself or it's commercial appeal.

Just got the following in my email:
Tiger Woods drives his Volvo into a Petrol Station in Cork during his
tour of Ireland. The attendant at the pump greets him in a typical Irish
manner,
unaware as to who the golf pro is, "Top o the morning to you young
fella!"
As Tiger leans over to get out of the car two tees fall out of his top
pocket onto the ground. "What are dey son?" asks the attendant.
"They're called tees" replies Tiger Woods.
"And what would dey be for then?" enquires the Irish man.
"They're for resting my ***** on while I'm driving" says Tiger.
"Jaysus, says the Irish man, "Dem boys at Volvo just tink of
everything!"
