I work at Eastman Kodak. They have been cutting constantly for the past 10 years. For a while they were only cutting operational and technical staff (real workers) then they went after a few layers (of about 80 layers) of management. Now they are going after the blue collar again. I just got numb to it after a while and stopped listening to the rumor mill. Always remember, they would rather bypass experience and ability and save a few bucks an hour by bringing in cheaper labor. I hope to be there a few more years, until Kodak is simply a sticker machine running in some garage in China or Maxico!! .

I am in the electric power business. Things are good. We cut off those who won't or can't pay and we sell to the highest bidder. I'll be looking to get some good deals on a SD when someone defaults on a loan.

I sell firewood. If everyone would buy from me then one of us could pick up Kilroy's truck cheap when he defaults.

Lost my job back in October - we're(they're) merging with another HMO so because of that they need to "trim some fat" - have they looked at the MANAGEMENT lately? Nope!
My sister works for Xerox - downsized after 20 years there. At least they try to find a spot SOMEWHERE w/in the company so seniority isn't lost. Problem is my brother in law works there too! He SEEMS to be safe for now but who knows? Ever hear of a COPIER company that is so bad off the employees aren't allowed to make COPIES? That's how bad it is right now.
I have a TON of employment websites with nationwide listings - if anyone needs good sites to look for jobs, email me @ Cowlady18@cs.com & I'll try to help you out. Good luck everyone! Raoul - when I end up homeless I just may buy some of that firewood so I can stay warm! LOL!

I am in luck, I have spotted a 97 V-6 xlt 2wd for 10,999. It has 40,000 miles on it.Also comes with a conopy (expensive kind) painted to match the truck.I need to look at its service records and see if the timing cover gasket recall was done to it. I just have to hope the dealer is willing to work with me.Heading down there in a couple of hours.

Howies_effie:

Sounds like you're in good company. I was laid off from a web-house last October. Right before the holidays. Pretty crappy. I used credit cards to pay for Christmas.

Took about 6 weeks to find employment. The job market is even worse now, glad to hear you lined something up.

Well, I feel bad for all you guys and gals out there. I tried to lay myself off (retire from the military). My retirement papers are on my desk but I can't quite convince myself I'm ready yet.

I could've retired 1 Sep, father keeps telling me to stay in, that there is nothing out there. Doesn't understand that just sometimes it time to do something different (which now I will be by not retiring, leaving for Saudi Arabia next month for 90 days).

WEll, here is alittle update. Trade truck off is not gonna happen. the dealer says the market is real soft right now and he can only give me 14,000 for my baby.I owe 18,121 after a year of payments. I would rather not add 4,000 grand onto the cost of a used truck as this would defeate the purpose of trying to lower my payments.
My work situation is good (actually great) until the 19th.They want me to work 6 twelve hr shifts, take 1 day off and work six more 12 hr shifts. That is 48 hrs of overtime(time and a 1/2) on one paycheck>Should bring home a pretty good chunk of change.I am thinking of sending alot of it in to ford so I won't have to make payments for 3-4 months. After the 19th, I am jobless.Hopefully a good job will come open between now and then.

I get it, you are dismissed, but until you leave would you mind busting your *** for us to help us out with the workload??. I just dont think I'd be too kindly to assist them. They told you what they thought, you're gone. Doesn't seem right. Sounds kinda like a Kodak move!!. Oooops, shouldn't say that..

Had a good buddy from my life in Fairport that was working in the Kodak building down in the city by the Pontiac dealer( Near Lake ave? corner of the 4 way intersection cant remember name ) that got laid off due to downsizing. Xerox finally got my father to opt out in voluntary retirement in their downsizing. He is ever so glad he got out when he did and cashed all his stocks in before the took a dive. Worked for them 33 yrs and they just said thanks well see ya..Sounds like the Webster, Henrietta, and downtown Rochester buildings are getting pretty empty.

Locally here Nortel, Selectron and some others have claimed other friends jobs in the last couple months. Its hitting everyone everywhere it looks like.

Sucks to hear about all the layoffs. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one but it still sucks for everyone involved.

Get this - my company had me go through $25,000 worth of training in the 12 months before I got axed. Fortunately all that training helped me land a great new job - Everyone I talk to is just plain amazed that I lined up new work at higher pay in 2 weeks. My new job is doing R&D engineering for a medical device company - that seems to be where all the growth is right now.

I got whacked right before I earned my 2 weeks vacation on my anniversary date, and they gave me 2 FREAKING DAYS of severance pay. Thanks a lot. They didn't escort me out of the building like most companies do, so I *might* have *accidentally* taken home some computer hardware, software, books, and tools. Too soon to tell since the remnants of my office is still a big pile of boxes in my living room.

Raoul - I am converting my fireplace to burn documents I stole from my ex-employer, so I won't be needing any wood until next season. Thanks!

2000FS, that would be Piehler Pontiac. And, yes that would be Kodak Park Division (where I work). The job is fine that I do, but the politics and B.S. that is forced down on us is unbeleivable. I wish I headed south many years ago. Kodak in Rochester is run it seems by people that have a very fast keyboard, lots of cool school books to refer back to, but absolutely no common sense. Just like thousands of other busineses, the push is on to cut heads. Just think how many productive workers could be saved by cutting ONE single manager that makes approx $1MILLION per year. Hmmmm, one less paper shuffler, to save approx 20-25 viable workers. What a concept, too bad that concept will never be employed. Oh god, there I go again!. Sorry bout that!.. ..
