Do you Overclock?... and Post your PC specs...
I do not overclock for one reason, stability! Even a single crash caused by overclocking is too many for me. Besides, my system is powerful enough without overclocking. Here's what I've got:
Dell Precision 420
Dual Pentium III @ 1GHz
256K on CPU cache (each CPU)
256MB of PC800 RDRAM
Diamond Viper V550D w/ 32MB RAM
Sony 19" Trinitron monitor
Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI card
18GB (10,000 RPM) Ultra160 SCSI hard drive
Panasonic SCSI DVD drive
48x IDE CD-ROM
3Com 10/100 Network card
Sound card, speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc.
OS: Windows NT 4.0
Now technically this is my work system, but I use it 8-10 hours a day, for work and personal business. For all intents and purposes it's my machine, just work bought it. I use my home machine on the weekends only, for the most part.

I think the majority of us do "beef" up our PC's as much as we "beef" up our trucks. To date, my PC upgrades have out numbered and priced much more than my truck upgrades.
It's a vicious cycle, especially in the PC market. The dual 1GHz and the 1.4GHz (1.8) machines will be dinosaurs this time next year, but yet will continue to be better than 80% of the existing machines.
So if we overclock through existing technology, we are extending the life of the machine and obtaining optimal performance. Very much like adding that Superchip to our trucks or the FIPK, or whatever.
Stability: I have it either way if done correctly (truck and PC).
I always say: RTFM

Amen, Murfster!! I have and always will be a tweaker with whatever I have. Overclocking is wonderful, you get extra performance for free. I am almost getting an extra 100% increase in clock speed. Wish I could increase my horsepower 100%, without spending any money. But you can have the best of both worlds, you just have to compromise. For example, my system will get as high as 1.2Ghz but stability is very erratic. Sometimes it will allow me to encode/decode music and then the next minute it won't. That's when you have to back it down, because right now I have no problems whatsoever @ 1.1Ghz. I use SiSoft Sandra 2001 to benchmark and burn my system in. I imagine I could go higher, maybe even above 1.2+, but that would require watercooling and/or a peltier setup. But I personally don't believe getting water anywhere near my pc. So far to date I have overclocked 15+ systems with no problems. My friends, family, and girlfriend all say I have a problem. Maybe I should go to meetings, I am addicted to tweaking. But hey, I just admitted to it, so I guess I don't have a problem, do I?

Hi Talleywhacker,
I have usually oc'd in the past, started doing that in the mid-80's when we used to have to solder a pair of different Fox oc's to overdrive the CPU, but right now I've been fighting some issues. Tried using a few ASUS CUSL2 boards, but every one of them had serious problems with instability, though others have had good luck with that board, I did not.
My current configuration:
Abit VP6 dual-processor board w/onboard RAID
InWin tower case & 300 watt power supply
Intel P3 933/133
512 Mb. PC133 SDRam (not pushed, running @ CAS3)
IBM 30 gig ATA100
Toshiba DVD/CDRW drive
Toshiba CD-ROM drive
Sound Blaster Live Platinum & Live Drive(what a waste, lousy quality sound for the price, very fussy & needs 2 IRO's, maybe should have gone Turtle Beach?)
DirecPC satellite Internet (rural, no DSL!)
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon & another ATI 32 Mb. card
NEC 21" Monitor
Older 17" monitor for dual-monitor setup
etc., etc.
Windoze 98SE
Microsoft Internet keyboard, USB
Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, USB
APC UPS, USB
Belkin 4-port USB hub
(Total of 3 USB controllers between mainboard & external hub, so have not gone over the 5 controller limit)
Current problem is that the system will freeze for a second or so when typing or moving cursor, like an IRQ conflict, but no IRQ conflicts exist. Also, anytime the DirecPC USB modem is attached, parallel port will not operate correctly; not a big problem since I use a USB printer, but it needs to be mentioned as it's a tell-tale sign/symptom. BIOS has provision for giving USB it's own unshared IRQ with this VP6 mainboard, and that is enabled. Had same problems with 3 different ASUS CUSL2 boards (and I've always had excellent luck with ASUS in the past, grrr), but much worse, unworkable, this ABIT VP6 board is much better & far more stable. No IRQ conflicts, & no difference if Plug & play OS is enabled in BIOS. Seems like it must be a simple problem of a memory conflict or two somewhere instead of an obvious IRQ problem, but haven't gotten it figured out yet, and it seems to be related to the USB system. The cursor will freeze for a second when the hard drive is writing, yet no IRQ conflicts, DMA enabled for IDE drives. If anyone has specific suggestions for a good way to check for & correct the possibility of memory conflicts, or anything else that comes to mind that I've missed, I'm all ears at this point.
I can't wait to get this straightened out, so I can overclock this bad boy & see just what it will do. Once that's done, then it's maybe time for the second CPU & Windows 2000, though I'd rather wait for Windows XP.
