Just got a comment about the move over law.. I see it stated WHEN SAFELY ABLE TO DO SO... So if your cruising down the highway and see the cop, what are you going to do if you can't move over because there are car's all along side of you.. I know it says to slow down but for god sake on these highway's you will get rear-ended if you slow down to 20mph lower than the speed limit..

I am GLAD he popped you for the "move over and slow down" law. 1. It's COMMON sense. 2. If your state is anything like ours, that slogan is plastered EVERYWHERE on the highway. The law is move over and slow down. You didn't move over and didn't slow down. Kinda a no brainer to me. The rest is probably cause the officer was pissed about being buzzed by at 65. I know I would be...

Hrm interesting, maybe I'm just lucky, 2 years of driving all over central Florida and haven't been pulled over once, no tickets, no citations, nothing(*knock on wood*). Just out of curiosity what road were you on?

Usually, if you get the exhaust fixed, the judge will throw it out when it goes to court as long as you can show them the receipt for having it fixed.
Exhaust tickets are stupid and a pointless waste, as they are "selectfully" enforced. I got my truck straight-piped, drove it around, it sounded absolutely beautiful for years, then I got 3 tickets in 2 days all of a sudden. Evidently, when they got sticks up their butts, every one of them decided that it was an issue, even though I had been driving past them for 2 years, even getting comments from them about how good it sounded. That's a money racket IMHO.
The move over law is a good thing, though, and it has been in place in TN and VA for quite a while now.

if the other lane was clear I understand why you got nailed for it and the other ticketrs that they stacked on was "to teach you a lesson" probably

some cops are cool but once you **** one off you're on a losing streak...

good luck in court and let this be a lesson to all, MOVE OVER or slow down and if possible do both

according to the FL move over law, in a 20mph zone, you are supposed to slow down to 5mph.

It is an officer's job to enforce ALL the laws of his jurisdiction; not pick and chose which ones to enforce. If you do not agree with a law don't vote for it when it comes up or get enough people to petition and have it voted out. If people were not so selfish we wouldn't need half the laws we have now.

dont mean to stray off-topic, but i was driving up and down that road all the past weekend. I stayed at the Lakeland RV resort for Sun 'N Fun. all I can say is I'm glad we had a GPS!

The move-over law I can see sticking, but the exhaust one is total BS. how loud is yours? up here, we have these old chevy's running straight 3" pipes from the exhaust manifold and you can hear them popping up to 3 miles away. its annoying... i wish some of those lakeland cops moved up here

I do agree, but the problem is that every law is not enforced every single time. Some cops do sometimes get "selective" about who they ticket for what.

Both he and the offender were in their respective vehicles as I passed by. About 1 mile later, at a red light, a cop behind me turned on his sirens, and I pulled into a parking lot. Long story short, the cop wrote me a ticket for the "move over" law, $150, a tint violation ticket, $100, and a "modified exhaust" ticket for $100, totaling out to $350 in citations.

I'm not trying to defend myself against the tint ticket, that's obviously the result of my choosing to run limo tint. However, the ***** tried to tell me that any form of "modified exhaust" that wasn't "factory" is grounds for a ticket. I have catalytic converters, and am running a magnaflow muffler, for cryin' out loud. I wasn't going around running the truck at WOT either...

What are my options for getting this exhaust violation thrown out? Anything I can do about the "move over" BS? Apparently, I was supposed to either slow 20mph under the speed limit, or move over to the adjacent lane...

The ***** even tried to right me a ticket for lift law violation. He took the trucks front GVWR out of the door jamb, and measure the bumper height and frame rail height. He couldn't throw that one at me, though. For those of you who don't know, my truck has the 6+3 combo.

Any thoughts/opinions, anybody? I'm particularly looking for replies from FL guys, but anyone is welcome.
I see you constantly refer to this officer as a "*****". Maybe you should walk in his shoes a few days, where you have to deal with jerks everyday who only want you around "when they need you". And try standing on the highway when you have pulled someone over or you are helping someone with a flat tire or giving directions (yes, cops do this) and some JACKASS blows bye by you at 90 because they are too STUPID to see all the flashing lights and clips your arm with their mirror and refuses to even stop. Most cops don't write tint and muffler citations. But, it sounds like you mouthed off and got what you deserved.

actually, radar's FX4, he did not have his lights/sirens on. his doors were shut, and he was inside the car.

i was doing 65mph in a 65mph zone.

i did not mouth off to the officer at all. i handed him my license and registration promptly when he asked me for it. i said nothing as he measured my window tint with the tint meter.

i politely questioned him on the exhaust ticket. i told him i had catalytic converters and an aftermarket muffler. he responded that "any 'modified' exhaust is 'illegal'." i looked up the FL law, and it basically states that any exhaust louder than stock is illegal, not "modified" exhaust.

i understand what its like to deal with rude people, i work in retail sales. however, just because he deals with jerks everyday, that didn't give him the right to stick it to me because he was pissed beforehand.

some people assume that young guys with nice things have everything paid for them by their parents. i work my tail off 40 hours a week, and go to college full time. i have nice things because i work hard, and take care of what belongs to me.

Listen to this guy. If you can show that you didn't violate every portion of the law. you can beat some of these tickets. Just because the cop gives you a ticket doesn't mean you violated the law.
