There are no 2004 "Heritage Edition" F150s. The 2003 was the only "Heritage Edition" F150. It was to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Ford 1903-2003. It has three special badges seen in my pictures. They were placed on the right, left, and rear of the truck. It also, had this unique two-tone paint job. It was available in Black/Burgundy, Black/Shadow Gray, and Black/Tan. The interior was unique to this vehicle, as well. It was a jet-black dash, doors and carpet. The seats were two-tone as well to correspond with the exterior two-tone paint job. From what I have heard and read, it was a $1,200 to $2,000.00 added to the existing XLT. There were only 15,000 of these commemorative vehicles produced commemorating Ford’s 100th Anniversary.
The 2004s are just left over 2003's, before the body change and they called them a Heritage. They are not the Heritage Edition as many refer to them. They also did not receive any of the upgrades of the 2003 Heritage Edition F150. They only had plain named badge (not the Heritage Edition Badge) on the rear that said Heritage.
It was a marketing maneuver to move the leftover 2003 F150s as a newer 2004 model, by calling it a Heritage. This way the could sell the 2003 to those thinking they were buying an 2004 (this is why there are two models in 2004)
The 2003, however, is the only Heritage Edition F150 made. Therefore, if you have one of these 2003’s – you are one of only 15,000.

I am still learning and researching, but this is what I have learned so far.

I am not so sure about that. My step-dad bought a 2004 XL work truck right before they came out with the XL in the new body style. His looked just like the '97-'03 models. They did not make the 2004 new body style in the XL trim. His is a Heritage Model.

F-150 Heritage
Instead of dropping the previous-generation, light-duty, full-size pickup altogether in favor of the new design, Ford decided to keep the old one around until mid-2004 or so. Named the F-150 Heritage, the retained pickup follows on the heels of last year’s Heritage Edition, which helped mark the 100th anniversary of Ford Motor Co.
They are both Heritage Editions. Yours is the 100th Anniversary one.

Either way you are right mine (2003) is the 100th Anniversary and only 15,000 were made.

The problem may be the way the word Edition is getting thrown around here.
In 1998 Ford had the Nascar Edition.
Could you buy a black shortbed regular cab in 1999? Yes.
Was it a Nascar Edition? No.
Could a dealer put some stickers on the '99 to further muddy the water? Yes.
In 2003 you could buy a Lariat, XLT, XL, Lightning, Heritage Edition, King Ranch, etc...
In 2004 the Lariat, XLT and XL carried over to the new bodystyle.
They were also making the old body style but, what to call it?
Making up a new name for an old truck didn't make sense.
They couldn't call it a Lightning.
So they went with Heritage, maybe Heritage Model.
If somebody refered to the 2004, old body style as Edition, the salesman didn't care, he was just trying to close the deal.
The only people who would get their panties in a wad would be the 2003 Heritage Edition buyers who paid a premium for the package only to have all the OBS 2004 owners claim they have the same truck.
I recommend the Heritage Edition owners and the 1998 Nascar Edition owners get together and file a claas action.

My intent was just to make all the 2003 Heritage Edition F150 owners aware of what a rarity they truly have with all the upgrade features it has. Not to mention the fact there are only 15,000 of them out there.
Or maybe they should just have an annual owner's picnic. Legitimate owners can be positively identified at the gate... By the stick up their butt.

I would like to know how many of the three paint schemes (Black/Burgundy - Black/Tan - Black/Dark Shadow Gray) were produced.

Being that my truck is a '95 I had to get the Heritage Edition Lightning decals. I sure wish I could use a second generation badge.

To each is own.
I have only had this truck for 5 days and have had all great comments on it. However, when someone has seen the Badges or when I have said It is a Heritage Edition - the consensus replies "Oh, I thought the Heritage's were the early 2004s"
I am one who likes R&D and reads every manual of every vehicle and/or product I buy. He**, my wife even calls me Manny (for Manuals). So when all the discrepancies where coming to light - I had to check it out. In fact, I just got home and in today's mail was the 2003 F-150 Brochure showing all the available info for 2003. I found it online and had to have it.
If I wanted a secret club, if I wanted an annual picnic, If I wanted to flaunt it - well, then I would have paid the huge price tag back in 2003. Instead, I waited til it was broke in by two previous owners and available at an affordable price.
I just wanted to know more about this truck I have owned for 5 days and thought it was really cool that there were only 15,000 and they were in 3 different color schemes; you'd think I bought a Chevy Truck the way some act.
At any rate, I just want to say I love this F150 - she is a nice truck. If you'd like to see her look in my album.
Thanks All,
Manny
