Well it is better to cancel a few activities then continue as regular and spread a virus around that NO ONE is immune too. I think the reason the young/old are infected more by the regular flu has a lot to do with the flu shot. Most adults get the flu shot. Not many infants/elders get them. People get the flu shot and some are able to build an immunity to it. The swine flu is new and no one is immune and nothing can be done to build immunity.

Your theory is wrong. Nobody is immune to influenza, any strain.

So I was talking to a Medic and Doc in the Local ER yesterday

A guy came in earlier, said he may have the swine flu (he was showing no symptoms), when asked if he'd every been to Mexico, or if anyone he knew had he replied no. HOWEVER! 2 Mexicans sat in the booth behind him at a local restaurant...

Amazing how the media can blow things out of proportion

The media costs this country billions of dollars by blowing things out of proportion. They bashed the housing market for what? Going on 2 years now. Tell me that they don't influence the consumer confidence level. Get rid of some of these damn media companies and I believe all kinds of things would improve.

I'm sure they are adding to the Bacon Fever panic but when it comes to health issues some factual reporting would be good but not speculation. It's this stupid "what if" type of reporting that is the problem.

Dude you've got that backwards. Kids get flu shots as part of their normal required imunizations. And old people get flu shots cause their old and realize that a bout of flu could be really hard on them.

I've never had a flu shot and I'm 30. At least none that I remember.

Kids dont get flu shots as part of a mandatory vaccination. You have to get it every year because the strains mutate. The only normal immunizations are hepititus, tetnus, and i think one other. But flu shot is not one of them.

And people to begin do become somewhat immune to certain strands of influenza. It begins to lose power over the years until it mutates and then attacks again. The vaccines help by basically giving you a small amount of the flu that allows your body to build defenses before you get it. If no body has these defenses ahead of time the swine flu is able attack everyone. And those with weaker immune systems are much more vulnerable because humans have not been able to adapt/react to this newer strand.

Very true. The way the human body works is we need to get sick to stay healthy. We need to be infected by these bugs so our bodies can build up defenses for them. Some will get hit hard by it and unfortunately die, but most that are infected will recover.

I just got an email from my school with the title "Possible Swine Flu Outbreak in Northern Arizona University"

The article said ONE 19 year old kid had minor symptoms of the flu and everybody freaked. Everyone is wearing white masks and nobody is eating in the cafeteria. There was a group of extreme hippies looking for attention so they started blaming Bush for the outbreak hahaha. I got a good laugh.

No reported cases in my town yet, but the school districts and the junior college have said if they get a single case, they will shut the school down. For the JC, that means canceling finals.

The school districts say if they get a single case, they will spend a full week dis-infecting that campus.

Last year we actually had a fatal case of MERSA in one student, and there was nowhere near the level of panic.

This was supposed to be the weekend of Mayfest in Fort Worth. It was cancelled. About 200,000 attend over the weekend and the promoters lost about $500,000. Right after the announcement of cancellation, the mayor of Arlington came on telling everyone to come out to the Rangers baseball game.

Haha, he didn't study for his finals so he developed an illness. Brilliant! (Not that it has never happened before.)
