I was in management before myself. You have extra responsibilities (which is ok), but it usually equates into UN-PAID overtime, and taking your job home with you. When you factor that in, your hourly wage is much lower, and you still won't have enough time for the kids. What's most important. My company is asking all the time for me to go into management..."no thanks", I've been there before, and I would get paid less!!!

fur:

Walmart is willing to invest 17 weeks in you...that tells me something!! You'll have more value down the road a year if you want to find another job, after going through a 17 week training program, working for the country's largest retailer, known for supply chain excellence, bla, bla, bla....That's my logical, rational, two cents.

#1 - Do what's best for you (short commute, time with family, or whatever it is.)

#2 - Do what will provide what's best for you long term, maybe you suck-up a long commute for a year until Walmart opens a new store near you, and you become the big kahuna.

Question - How many new stores has CVS built in the last three years?

Answer - About 100 less than Walmart....

Well, I just recently started working at Wal-Mart (not Walmarts)and I'd say they are the better deal. You get a 10% discount on purchases, the opportunity to buy stock in the company on the very first day you are employed, a VERY open door policy, your schedule is done 3 to 4 weeks in advance so you KNOW when you have off, and it is a MULTI-TRILLION dollar company! The store manager at my store TAKES HOME 180K per year! And he has only been with the company for 10 years, starting out as a "Cart pusher". The management staff is pleasant to work for, and if you are at a Wal-Mart Supercenter, you will have groceries there, too! Wal-Mart already has plans to open 200 more stores this year alone! Need I say more?

Good luck!

Wow Claudia sounds great! Hey do you have to sing in the morning too? Or is this a secret at Wal-Mart that I shouldn't tell people?

So what job did you take mightyfur?

Talking

I can help on which job he took eph1fifty.

If he responds by 5pm he took CVS.
If he responds by 7pm he took Walmart.
If he responds by 9pm I'm not sure but, he was definitely sucking up, the first day.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that. I can't count how many times my nose has been broke when my boss took a corner a little too sharp. And I HATE my boss! I'm so glad that in 4 months he'll be graduating and going off to college.)

But, that's another story...

Question

A hundred and eighty grand a year to manage a Walmart? Geez, I think I'm in the wrong business. (Healthcare) By the way, CVS is big around New England. They are owned by the Meville Corp owners of Thom McCan shoes. The letters stand for Consumer Value Stores. They pay big bucks for land to build on.

EPH: Sing? Sorta... More like a "cheer". hehe... kinda corny... but kinda neat...

Mightyfur: Yeah, you prolly will have to do 3rd shift for awhile, but that's where your "availability sheet" comes into play. And you will have 17 weeks to prepare for it, so, you have some thinking to do, I guess. Good luck! Oh, and a tip: Quit calling it "Walmarts". There is no "s" at the end. If you are gonna work there, you should know the name. You wouldn't call CVS "CVS's". Or would you?
