USA Gun Law Question

Also, I can go to the gun show in Kingsport, TN and purchase a handgun (it's closer than any Virginia show for me) and it is fine, but I do have to go through the background check.
Haven't been to a gun show in Virginia and tried to buy anything, but I would imagine that it's rough, Virginia is usually more strict on any laws (vehicles, weapons) than most other states.
One reason I stay more and more in TN now. This whole state income tax thing is probably going to do it for me, I think I will be a TN resident before long.
well somewhat true!!! you got all te back ground checks blah blah blah, and in most cases they will turn away people if they look suspisious, or are acting inapporate, but i sat a watched 4 middle eastern people buy 4 different guns (one for each) but only one of the guys ever did any of the dealing with the salesman, and he was the only one who got a background check and not to mention speak english. virginia gun laws are so relaxed.

'PRIVATE PARTY' sales on handguns are illegal in CA. A dealer must perform the actual transaction. I think the same rule applies to long guns, I am just not 100% certain.
I bought my .45 from a private seller. We met at a licensed dealer. I paid the seller for the gun. The seller handed it over to the dealer. I filled out the required paperwork for the background check. The dealer kept my new gun for 10 days, while the state checked my background. After 10 days, I picked up the gun and paid the dealer about $50 for his trouble.
In CA, there is no 'gun show loophole'.
CA law also requires a person to be a resident to purchase a firearm. The states that border us, like AZ and NV also will only allow residents to purchase. In other words, I cannot just drive to an easier state to make my purchase.
