Big pat on the back to the pilots and crew.

Fairly amazing to see a commerical airliner moored to a bulkhead on a river.

Just to let everyone know, a bird can easily take out an engine. Ive seen a lot of bird strikes (USAF aircraft maintainer), i have actually never seen one take out an engine, but heard of it. Most of the planes/engines ive worked on after a bird strike (one bird) made it down safely but it tears the insides of the engines up. Cant imagine a goose, or even a flock of regular birds.

I saw the aftermath of a 747 hitting a flock of deer on the runway, it kablaso'd 3 deer, it was gross.

Not glad about the situation of course but the more Canadian Geese that can be killed the better. Our national bird is an absolute nusance crapping on all our beaches and grass. The more geese you guys can knock out of the air the better. I hate that fricken bird.

I usually don't fly the CLT-LGA route, but yeah, it still hit pretty close to home.

I hope that pilot gets a nice big bonus check this year!

LOL I've never had a drink in my life or a smoke. My friends poke funny all the time. I was down there for about two weeks during the X-Mas vacation. The next time that I'm down there will be Memorial Day. I will contact you around then. Do you ride ATV's or sportbikes? When I do come down there I usually trailer mine down.

We dropped him off at the airport, he flew up to NY and she's renting a car for the drive back today. This is a woman who's flown all over the world, she flies weekly in her job, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 flights per week. She still says she's all done flying.

So is she quitting her job? Going to be hard to continue to do whatever she does if she's not going to fly anymore...

Give her time. It'd be a shame for her to be unable to travel (outside the US) for the rest of her life.

I think saying 'no' just 24 hours after that is completely understandable.

I've had some descents into Atlanta that had me seriously contemplating heading for the car rental booth rather than my next gate.

My last flight, a guy across the aisle was openly weeping.
The girl beside me went thru her vomit bag, my vomit bag and the stewardess brought her another.
They finally moved her someplace.

I think I saw that woman, they moved her to a boat near the Outer Banks where she's chumming for Sharks.

The neighbor got home about an hour ago. A few of the neighborhood kids went to visit. They returned dissapointed, "She wasn't limpin', no cast, and no stitches, didn't even look like she was in an accident!" She must have heard them talking, because one of them said they had to leave in a hurry she mumbled something about finding the shotgun!

All's well that ends well!

A few questions I havn't seen addressed anywhere...

1) You guys think the passengers will get a big wad of cash for their troubles?
My friends and I were arguing about this today.
They seem to think they will each get a million dollar settlement, but from what I recall, there's a bunch of fine print on the back of the ticket that limits their liability to not a lot.

I think if the plane crashed due to their negligence, there's a cap you can get, but this is a little different isn't it?

2) Has there been any videos floating around that someone took from their phone of the plane actually landing in the river? I have not seen one of these yet.

3) The fuel: Did pilot dump the fuel prior to hitting the water, or is the fuel still intact on the plane? No spills? Nothing broke open?

I was just curious about the above and havn't seen anything about it yet.

1. I'll try to keep you informed as to my neighbor's wealth or lack of it over the next several months and years. They just did a complete renovation of their basement into a library and media room, I believe they said 50 or 60 thousand. So if they suddenly move into a new 2 or 3 million dollar home and begin renting this one, I'll figure she got a pretty big settlement from US Air.

2. I was thinking along the same lines, there should be a vid out there. As many pics as have surfaced (no pun intended) there should be something showing the pancake landing in the river.

3. The reports said the pilot went through the emergency water landing checklist and secured the plane for the wet touch down. I wonder if that had anything to do with dumping fuel. I doubt it because of where they were. At 400 feet, several thousand gallons of jet fuel would mess up Manhattan worse than a Wall Street bank profit and loss statement.

Thanks Serotta,

The thing about the fuel is truly remarkable.
The plan just lifted off the runway, so it's got a full load right?
It crash lands into the river and no fuel gets lost?

Unbelievable, and what else is weird is that you would think the first thing these Emergency Crews would do is somehow stick a hose into the fuel tank and pump all the jet fuel out before it enters the river.

I just find it strange how there hasn't been any mention of it.
