Do you have the guts?
Hey, Chris, are you a member of the John Birch Society---if not , you should be...as long as I can remember, I really cannot say that I have read much from you that is actually positive about the US of A. Nothing but spewing vitriol about how wrong this is, how socialist that is, etc...
If you find so much fault with this country of ours, why IN THE WORLD ARE YOU STILL HERE? PACK UP AND LEAVE IT, CHRIS.
But I seriously doubt that you find anything better. WE are overtaxed, we are over adjudicated, we are over...blah. blah, blah. US of A has its faults, but it is still, by far, the best damn country there is (I know our friends up north can and should take exception to this).
Quit spewing your negativism all of the time, Chris...either that, or put your money where your mouth is, and find a new address, without a United States zip code...
If the US is as horrible as you say it is, and you really have that big of a problem with it, BYE BYE...I have said this before, and I will say it again, Chris, you are truly the happiest when you are the most unhappy.

Chris, I like you buddy but he's right, you are a bit of a negative Nelly.
My mom suffers from the same ism.
I'm sure you've got a lot in your life to be happy about, and I'm sure you have your disappointments as well, but c'mon man, just try being a bit more positive.
You will live longer.
If one were to build, say, a $150,000 to $200,000 house, what is another $200? Especially if it prevents somebody from putting a dump of a house up next to me, right?
You may look at it as evidence of over govenrmental influence; I look at it as preventing problems from possibly occuring.

As far as my negativity toward the government. That started when bush Sr. came in office. It was obvious he was no Conservative. Then clinton. OMG what a nightmare.. then bush jr... JUST LIKE DADDY! Now obama momma. So you expect me to be positive after 20 years of progressively more liberal views that affect this nation? You have to be kidding. Ours is the greatest nation on the earth. But it is in a landslide toward socialism... and you libs are fat dumb and happy now and don't even realize what is happening. You somehow think that larger government and more spending (of which you criticized bush for years on) is the answer to our problems. Amazing. The hypocrisy would be funny if it wasn't so serious. And all you war haters who hate bush because of Iraq... wow.. now obama is sounding just like **** Chaney. obama in the campaign said bush failed because we didn't get osama bin laden. Now obama says that it is important to put down al queda... and osama isn't so important to kill... hmmm.. just like Chaney said a month or two ago. And Guantanamo? obama says that he wants to close it. Reality sets in and he won't close it. (good thing too). Will you obamanites criticize obama for flip flopping? HELL NO! the bush hate is so strong obama can be like bush in all but name and it will be OK. How sickening the double standard is.
Have you gone off your nut?
I get that you're a conservative, ok cool, you guys have had a republican president for the last 8 years.
I get that you hate liberals and everything they stand for, but now you go as far as blaming your own republic President who you voted for, and blaming all the problems on the liberals?
Hello?
Where ya been for the last 8 years while the guy you voted for, the guy who represents the party you love has been in power.
You don't get it both ways, as much as you want to try.
When Obama does something stupid, go ahead and blame all the liberals for it, but at least wait for him to get in there before you start with your bs.

Bush is your guy, don't deny it now, and why blame a liberal for the fk ups of the last 8 years caused by a republican president who YOU voted for.
$200,000 house with another $200 for permits? are you friggen kidding me? Try $4,000-$10,000 for the permits.. depending on your zoning restrictions, land use, wet lands and the such. Get up to speed man! The government is all over this land taking money it has no business taking.
where the F do you live? Where I live a permit to build a house costs roughly $350. Money well spent, to make sure that I do not get a dump put up next to me, and that what is built next to me does not cause my property to be damaged by run-offs, etc...
Here is how I look at some things---when the framers of the Constitution wrote and ratified that document, they had no idea about what was to come; the more complex our society becomes, the more our laws have to be put into place to meet that complexity...you may yearn for simpler times, but than I guess, if you want to be that simple, become an Amish or a Mennonite and live like they do...but even they have to, in Ohio, have to have a silver or Day-glo orange slow-moving vehicle triangle on their buggies---even if they do not like it...I guess they also see that, while it might not fit into their religion, it keeps them safer and it keeps us from hitting them...
Cell phones? Not in the wildest dream of the framers of the Constitution. Now, there are cities in Ohio that have banned hands-on cell phone use while in a car...is this too much government? I don't have a problem with it, if it keeps us all the safer, and prevents somebody from being killed or injured.
If driving with a seat belt is such an infringement to you,I have this to say---1) don't drive 2) do what I do, when the weather is nice, and ride a bike, or 3) think, "Geez, if this seat belt is that big of a deal that that is all I have to worry about, I live a pretty darn good life in a pretty darn good country."
Again, I say, all I read from you is pissin' and moanin'. You are never happy unless you have something to gripe about...Move on, sir, and try, I dare you, to find something to be happy about.

Late entry....
Republicans are the biggest sore losers and crybabies I have ever seen.
Pres Obama not in office and getting blamed already.
They owned the government 6 of the 8 years Pres Bush was in office...have dominated presidential politics for the last 40 years...carried a majority in the house and senate the majority of that time and they still cry and blame the other side.
Crybabylosers!
Just joking.
I don't understand your point.
No Government run by people will ever be perfect as are all things man made.
Any idiot should understands this country is not and never has been an actual democracy. We have always democratically elected officials who are supposed to follow the law. Here is the problem....Mostly the same group of people who write the laws interpret the law as well as practice law.
Most judges are appointed, usually politically.
Laws can be changed, amended (modified) as they are deemed flawed or improper.
The Constitution has been amended (modified) as it is deemed flawed or improper.
The Republic works for those it favors and works against those it does not be it liberal or conservative.
Why is there a challenge to watch the video? It is informative if you are unfamiliar with the different types of governments.
Labels are always misleading. Republicans are the old democrats (dixiecrats) and democrats are the old republicans.
Liberals and large government = conservatives and small government are just inaccurate statements in practice. I could say any liberal or conservative is not liberal or conservative because he does things I dont like or consider liberal or conservative?
If that is the argument nobody is always liberal or conservative on all topics.
That is why you have fiscal and social conservatives and bla bla bla.
I notice most professed conservative republican seem to aggressively attack what they dont like. They dont believe in live and let live and they force and attempt to legislate what they think on the majority.
None of that negativity was intended by the founding fathers when they created this republic with it's checks and balances.
The same people who cry about the constitutionality of this and that are usually the ones that will freely trample on it and attempt to shut those out who dont think like them.

Your kidding right? I mean really... our rights are going away faster than a fart in the wind under obama.. and he isn't even inaugurated yet. The corruption is beyond the pale.. and he isn't even inaugurated yet. Both sides claim the video is right and the libs/cons have screwed it up.. it must be a truthful video......

In order to make any sense of this, I first have to give definitions to what I am calling a liberal and conservative. Bear in mind, that they are nothing but silly names given to schools of thought and political philosophies. At one time, liberals (known now more accurately as classical liberals) were lumped in with the likes of the founding fathers...those who favor a limited government and base many of their beliefs on the work of Hobbes and Locke. Definitely a far cry from what we call liberals today.
So, for the purpose of this, liberals = large government, democratic rule, social programs, government involvement and legislation of many aspects of life....whereas....conservatives = limited government, rule by republic, and the purpose of government is mainly to protect the public's rights and property.

ChrisWhy do you take things to such extremes? You do go a little overboard on some of the simple issues.
I have a person that rides with me sometimes that will hang a seat belt over their shoulder, why not just buckle it, they went to the trouble of fiddleing with it anyway. what's up with someone like that

Is it just that they have to rebelle because some one told them to do it?
I just don't get it. Here in Arkansas if your passenger don't wear the seatbelt, they get the ticket. if it were issued to the driver, I'd make damn sure they wore it.
But the stupidest laws I've seen change here is the addition of the seatbelt law, and almost at the same time they repealed the helmet law. It makes no sense what so ever. Can someone give a valid explanation to that?

Sure when the constitution was written the government collected taxes for national security, but now we have autos, Who would build the highways with out taxes. At one time you would have to pay an individual that built a ferry to safely cross a river with your goods. Now you just drive accros on a bridge. It just seems like major improvement to me.
You and I agree on some issues, partly because I'm a moderate. I also agree with some liberal issues. You stated in one thread about how a person has to take one side or the other.
I've got some news, it is OK to be a moderate. Without moderates no issues could get settled, because the extreme sides would be to busy argueing to come to terms with one another.
I think there is a point to this ramble somewhere, just give it some thought.

Meanwhile I'm going back to the Finite math for awhile, I got some pointers from my mentor yesterday, he says I already know it. but I do get a little confused because the terminology changes so much.
I'm tempted to get into the Quantum mechanics mentioned in a different thread also, but the abstract ideas I give don't get much thought from other people, but I'm not going to yell about it.
Be cool and don't take any Clinton $3sCheer up, our small part of this world is still the best part.
On another note. Can someone direct me to a spell checker for this computer that will come without extra BS I don't want. My work computers did automatic updates that adde it. this one has not. To think y'll thought I was finaly learning how to spell
Tumba's well written post reminded me of a point I wanted to make to Chris.
Chris & guys like him....
always cry foul as soon as the government steps in to regulate anything.
Here's a thought Chris:
If someone were to step in 5 years ago from the government and say
"Hey, we can't trust these bankers and money guys on Wall Street, let's impose a bunch of regulation on them so we can keep tabs on them and make sure they're not screwing us".
You would come along and start screaming bloody murder and calling them a bunch of Commy bastards for having the nerve to police our financial sector.
So here we are leaving everything to the money guys, letting them essentially police themselves, and everytime it happens, BAM, some fat whale steals 50 billion from the American Public.
That's a pretty good example of 'you're damned if you do and you're dammed if you don't."
My retirement fund is down about 25% because of all this thievery going on and all these stealing ahole robbing the cupboards bare.
You wanna stand there and say we don't need any regs to project us?
Enron and that latest guy to steal the 50 BILLION - these guys should be brought out front and centre and hung up by their nuts until they die.
I'm so sick of this pilfering and I know I'm not alone.
I understand when you say we can do a better job of being responsible for ourselves.
I agree with you, me you and a few minority % of the population can better manage their own affairs but the truth of the matter is that the average "Joe" on the street is a stupid uninformed idiot who has his head up his *** and needs someone to look after his sorry ***.
It's not fair, it's just life, and once you realize life isn't fair and stop begrudging the fact it isn't, you will finally have a revelation of a lifetime.

Anyone who wants the real story on Enron and the investment banking failures of 2008, just google JP Morgan Chase. Their hands are in everything. They unloaded 138 Billion of derivatives on Lehman Brothers(they were 'allowed to fail').
Happy reading !
Happy reading !
LOL you guys are funny. You claim I am simplistic by just pointing out small examples.. then you guys go overly simplistic. Labels have a purpose. They give some one the GENERAL idea of where someone is coming from. Of course you can't be all one or the other. There is some overlap. Ref... you about the most far out there. In lil ole ohio you may pay $350 for a house building permit... here in washington state (west side anyways) permits are extreem. I am not kidding when I said what the prices are. I got a lean put on my property for 4 years because the shed I build was to big. I didn't even know I needed a permit for a stinking shed. I had to cut 6 feet off of it to get the lean removed. I am looking at building a house on my property.. the permit process is unbelievable. Guys, all I am saying is that big government is bad. Your not getting something else I am saying. The bushes where NOT conservitive. Period. Grasp it. Beleive it. Just because they were the republican nominee.. doesn't make them conservitive. You all are too giddy about the big o being prez. The republicans over all are self destructing trying to be like democrats. It is very depressing. Conservitism will be back.. Until then, you all have fun with your social experiment.
