Hate info?

I carry a 9mm with me in my 1989. Not for carjacking anyways. I am not sure anyone would get too far with 2 empty gas tanks. I am interested too. I know in Texas you can get one.

There are thirty some odd states that offer concealed weapon licensing with many different requirements. Some states offer reciprocity, some don't (just because Alaska has issued you a license doesn't mean another state will honor it) and others allow reciprocity if you receive additional training. Training levels are very different for each state as well. In Oklahoma for instance, we're only required to have 8 hours of classroom training and fire 50 rounds of ammunition with the TYPE of weapon you intend to carry and it doesn't HAVE to hit the target. We have three different levels of licensing in ascending order: derringer, revolver, and automatic. With that in mind, I qualified using my Ruger MKII .22 automatic pistol so that I can carry any type of handgun I wish. It is claimed in Florida, concealed weapon licensing is what drove criminals to victimize tourists. There are so many people WITH weapons it's hard to make the determination of who's packing and who is not.

I live in Fla and to be totally honest with you if I had the money and oppurtunity(sp) I would move the h*ll out ASAP...I work for a school district here and weapons are a major concern and this is at a junior high level. Why the threat here is so great I really can't answere, but I can say its a sad state of affairs here that will undoubtably spread throughout this country.

I've got a concealed weapons permit in the State of Florida. You must pass a background check and Basic Firearms education course and of course the $125.00 fee. I carry a Sig Sauer P230 380 semi auto.

No matter how many "lawfully licensed gun carriers" there are, there is no doubt the number of illegal gun carriers in our state is ten fold at the least.I commend you for you obeying the law,but the reality of it is we are in deep ***** and getting deeper everyday.I witness almost on a weekly basis a middle school student being led out in cuffs for a weapons charge or drug charge.

Thanks for the replies, fellows. This is the exact reason why I have residency in Alaska, and continue to when I am finished with college.

Cool

I have a permit to "carry a concealed weapon" in New York. I've had it for approx 5yrs. I understand that its a bit harder to get a "concealed weapon" permit these days. Its much easier in NY to get an ownership permit (mainly for home protection). Of coarse, each state varies as to regulation, etc..

In Alabama, I had to apply and wait 7 days for a background check. No safety training required (If you are prior service and can produce proof - discharge papers (DD 214 for ARMY)..training is almost always waved in most states). The county sheriff called me and said the permit was ready, I paid my $15.00 and have had one for the past 5 years. They are good for one year and costs $15.00 per year to renew. I can carry any pistol, loaded that I own concealed on my person or in a vehicle.

Of course, not in government buildings, schools, places that serve alcohol, etc.

I carry a Glock 21 - 45 caliber with 230 gr. Black Talons..so far I have fired just over 1,300 rounds through this one (yes I have been keeping track since I am a bigger gun nut than FORD truck nut) and it still looks like new.

I have never once had to use it in the 5 years I have had a permit..but it is nice to know it is close by *if* I ever need it.

If I had that answer I would easily be elected govenor here..I am not claiming to have the answer, all I was trying to do was state a fact in regards to this state(Fla). This is a very dangerous state to live in,in my 39 years living in the Boston area,I have never witnessed as much violence as I have here.Just an opinion...

Red face

Toadman I doubt if there is anything that can be done. I have lived in Florida for all 45 years of my life. The more overcrowded the State gets the worse it is. Human overpopulation is the cause of all other problems.25 years ago nobody in my area (west Volusia cty) even knew what the word CRIME meant. 5 years 3 punk high school kids who barely spoke English tried to rob me in the Industrial park where my A/C business is located and I beat all 3 of them with a baseball bat, they had knives. All 3 were hospitalized for 2 weeks and I paid $15,000 in legal costs to be aquitted and I was the VICTIM!! The system can be manipulated and it stinks. Granted, any nut in Florida with $125.00 and a clean record can carry. I don't belong to the NRA because they are too over the line for me, but I do agree if guns were outlawed only outlaws would have guns. Florida and all other heavily developing States will have big increases in crime, it will happen and it's happening now..... LOCK your doors this is not Mayberry anymore!!

Dustoff-
The only way you can get the training waived in Oklahoma with your DD214 is to have proof you were in a law enforcement type job in the armed forces with the appropriate schooling. I was hoping to bypass this as I'm a Navy veteran, but no luck. Cost of the course was only $40 with $10 donated to the NRA's Eddie Eagle program and was interesting to say the least. We had an informative Q&A session with a criminal attorney concerning self defense and the use of firearms. That was worth $40 by itself. Where in the world did you get 1,300 rounds of Black Talons? Or, I suppose, this is only your carry ammo not your practice fodder, right?

Toadman/wannabe-
The rationale behind the concealed carry laws is to allow LAW abiding citizens to arm themselves where the criminal element have been for years. It's SERIOUS business to have a concealed carry permit and definitely not for everybody. Whether or not a CCW holder could have prevented the senseless tragedy in Missouri is open for debate. Folks can talk a good line of bull about "if I was there, etc." but you'll never know unless you're in that situation. I pray no one ever is.

Wink

Ford man,
That's right...I carry the Talons and use regular target ammo to punch holes in paper. I do have 4 boxes of Talon ammo though. There is an outfit near Atlanta Georgia..'Classic Arms' that is at every show here in Columbus Georgia...and they ALWAYS have a ton of Black Talons (the originals with L.E.O. only all over the box) for sale. All calibers also. I have test fired several 9mm and 45 Auto Talons and these are some VERY nasty rounds!!

Interesting on the DD 214 in Oklahoma (I was born in Altus by the way..I'm a native 'OKIE')...in Alabama...we do not have to be in military law enforcement...or so they said at the time.

I agree...CCW is *not* for everyone!

You were in the NAVY...oh geeeeez! hahahaha GO ARMY!!! hahahaha
