I did attend and complete Army basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ when I was in the Nasty Guard prior to enlisting in the Navy. I have a Para Ordnance P14 in .45, but I prefer to travel a little lighter by carrying either a Ruger SP101 with a 2 1/4" barrel or a Smith & Wesson 640 with 2 1/8" barrel, both in .357 Mag.

In California it's pretty difficult to get concealed carrying permit. You must show good cause why one should be issued. However, no shortage of guns being carried in Southern California. LA has a serious gang problem and they, fortunately, kill mostly each other. But, from time to time, they manage to kill innocent kids or wonder out into the suburbs to rob and kill. This continues despite tough California law that gives 10 extra years for use of gun in a crime, 20 extra years if someone is injured during that crime and life without possibility of parole if someone dies. Tough not to be cynical. I know when I go 4wheeling in the desert or mountains around here, I carry my AR-15 in my truck. I was in the infantry during Vietnam and would not hesitate to waste any punk that pulled a gun on me. I also have a law degree, so I know what self-defense and defense of others entails. Hopefully it will never come to that, but there is a serious lack of respect for other peoples lives today. It used to be that if someone was really unhappy with themselves they would kill themselves. Today, it seems, they have to take a dozen people with them.

Ford man:
I am not against the right of people to carry concealed weapons.H*ll its to bad you weren't driving by when Psycho was having his problem.Whats 3 rounds of ammo between friends anyway??It seems like some states are alot tougher than others, and right now Fla looks like its one of the easier ones to get a permit.

Psycho:
Its to bad that you had to "invest" that much money and you were the victim.I don't know what the heck to do,but you made a quote I here often around here, and that is "this is not Mayberry anymore"...I live south of you, down in the Melbourne area in Brevard, going to be a great weekend, temps in the 80's!!!!

I really didn't want to carry a gun around, so for the last 13 years I've been practicing in my garage on the art of using numb-chucks.
Now that I'm an expert, I've found that they are illegal to carry around!

What do they think I'm going to do? Use them to rob a 7-11?

Raoul,

They're more afraid that you'll violate someone's civil rights by kicking the crap out of 'em for trying to rob you.

Sorry, Rant mode on:

For some reason, one that I cannot fathom, the "authorities" are more interested in protecting the rights of the unjust far more than the victims that they prey upon.

I am a card carrying member of the NRA. I don't always like the tactics they have to resort to to protect one of the few rights we have to pursue "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happines" but I feel that fighting the good fight sometimes requires dirty tricks.

Here's an example. This was a published story in this month's "American Rifleman" (the NRA magazine).

It appears that Slick ***** and sidekick the Gullible Gore Treehugger have been misdirecting funds collected as excise taxes on sporting goods and hunting/fishing equipment.

Funds that are intended to be turned back to the states for wildlife conservation, purchase of land for environmental and breeding ground protection, etc.

Where have these fund been going? Into the coffers of groups such as Handgun Control International (The Brady Bunch), The Fund For Animals (the very people trying to have hunting banned entirely), and to do things like spend 30 Million dollars to buy an atoll 1000 miles south of Hawaii to set up a protected area for ducks.

Said ducks number 10 in population on this particular island. 3 Million a duck sounds a little extreme to me. It sound more like a south seas Camp David than wildlife refuge.

Make of this what you will, but there things afoot that need taking care of, but nobody wants to take the resposibility to act. The act that is required is a very simple one: VOTE. The only way changes can be made is to change the people making the decisions. If they make bad decisions, toss 'em out on thier ear and give the next guy a chance. Eventually this process can eliminate a whole lot of problems and make life better for all, but only if EVERYBODY does thier part.

My apologies again, but I'm very touchy on these issues.

Rant Mode OFF

The Wyldman

sounds like some states it's easier to get a ccw then to but a long rifle. i recently waited 16 days for my "instant" check to go through to buy a 30/06, no reasons just lots of excuses and of course prodding to make sure i still wanted the gun. should be interesting though, their not supposed to keep the records and this week i'm going to get my son a new 30/30 wonder if it will take 16 days again.
thought about a permit but considering i work in the "hood", if anything ever happened it would probably be called a hate crime then i'd never win the case of self defense. never mind that carjacking is definitely on the rise here. my best defense so far is that my truck is a stick and the jackers don't seem to like those

I got an e-mail from a member here who is a martial arts expert. I'm not going to mention any names (would you?).

Anyway, I was taken to task because of my above spelling of "numb-chucks", I was told the correct spelling is 'nunchuks'. Well, I don't know what 'nunchuks' are. All I know is, I have two midgets, both named Charles, joined together at the ankles with ten inches of chain. I twirl them around until they're, well, until they're numb.

Now admit it. Are you going to mess with a guy twirling two midgets over his head?

LOLROFPIMP RAOUL, Thats good.

I've bought 3 guns in the last year. 7
Mil Rem Mag, 12 guage Pump, and a 22 . Each time I've only had to wait like 5 mins to buy them. This part of the system seems to be working fine. I do plan on getting a Conceled Weapons Permit Soon. When I do I'm gonna carry the same gun My Brother-in-law cop carries. Glock 40 cal. All we have to do in Louisiana is take a class and pass a background check. Easy. On a side note, In louisiana your car is an extension of your home. Carry whatever, where ever you like in the car. If a Car jacker tires to take your car.....Shoot him Dead. You go home and he goes to the Morgue.

Cool

I had a liscense for many years in Georgia, but have not got around to it yet here in Florida. Do you have any idea how hard it is to conceal a .44mag Desert Eagle? But that is not necessarily a bad thing.

On the self defense issue and the consequences of shooting someone in self defense, I recall a quote of an instructor who taught a firearms class for women.....

"It is far better to be on trial for his murder than for him to be on trial for your murder."

Hey Dustoff, The Desert Eagle is always loaded with a combination of Black Talons and StarFire ammo.

Oh, great!

Now I'm getting hate mail from midgets.
At least, I think it's hate mail.
They use such a very small font...

Raoul, just invite the midgets over for dinner at the local baked beans restaurant. That'll teach them to fool with you!
