For the college students...

Does everyone else's financial aide departments suck as much as my schools or is it just mine? I've been emailing them asking when my loan will pay out... Cause I need money to pay for housing and such. They say as soon as they get it they'll send it to me. Long story short, they never even called the loan company to tell them to send it out. This isn't the first time they've royally f'd it up either.

the community college i go to has the worst financial aid people ever. I havent dealt with them much, but my friend has been screwed over several times. he's a veteran and they tried telling him he ran outta money. Needless to say he complained to them enough that the lady that told him no more money is no longer working there

I dont know how Rolla does it, but here they disperse money based on the order of application. You apply last, you get money last. The school has to wait for the bank to send the money...I ran into that problem last year.

i went through my bank this semester because i was too late to file for fafsa (or whatever it is) this is my first student loan as well, and the bank says as of today "The proceeds for this loan have been completely disbursed" so does that mean they sent it to my school or are they sending me a check?

Zair, if I worked in your financial aid department I would simply tell you to sell your truck and your boat if you needed money for college.......

I didn't apply for the loan through the school, I learned long ago to avoid their BS at all costs. The way my loan is set up is that I apply for one big loan per year, then it is paid out twice.

DD, selling my truck and boat would barely cover the cost of 1 year at school.

I have always just went through my bank for my loans. I have a buddy that has waited every semester since we were freshmen for his loan and now we are seniors because he also relies on it for housing and spending cash. its nuts

My parents didn't pay for school.... I worked to make my ends meet. No work, no school. That's it.

I might have not had the latest fashion designs, nicest looking truck, ability to party every day, but I worked and went to school... poked around the summertime for extra money doing stuff, and it all worked out.

I remember one month I had to make $150 last when gas was 4 bucks a pop. Not cool...

So I earned my education... plus I don't have to deal with those silly financial aid people.

Remember, once you've got an education debt, it will haunt you if you don't have the money to pay it back. Bankruptcy will only delay it, NOT get rid of it.

Ok so are you not getting Stafford Loans? What are you FR/SO/JR/SR or Grad school? (I work in FA)

Some aid is first come first serve (federal work study, FSEOG, some state grants).

You should always fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It depends when your semesters start as to when and if you can get federal loans in time for you to use them. Stafford Subsidized Loans are great, a fixed 6.0% interest rate and you don't accrue interest while you are full time, the government pays it.

Student loans usually go to the school first to pay off your bill then the excess is refunded to you. I'm not sure on your school's time frame...

My parents are already stresses out sending my older sis to FSU, and next year I'll be going to a college with $20K/yr costs. I will work to help pay though, I am not a freeloader like my siblings....

Is it possible to sell them just to cover this year till you can afford to purchase another truck and boat? Your education is more important in my opinion and another truck or boat are most times easier to get again. I think you mentioned you have a Cavalier you could drive or you could sell it also and get rides from friends. Or look into transferring to another school you could afford like a community college or taking a year off school to save some money. Just some suggestions... they may be hard decisions but might be the right ones to get through school. Maybe go to talk to the school or someone who could financially help you out.
