David Spade donates 100k to Phoenix police for AR 15's
David Spade is a class act! He just donated 100 grand to the Phoenix police dept to help them buy more AR 15 rifles.
Asking there be no fanfare or media attention, Mr. Spade called last week and said he wanted to donate $100,000.00 to the Phoenix Police Department towards the purchase of rifles to help keep our patrol officers and community safe.

Why do the PD's choose a $2K weapon?
I was thinking something like a Ruger Mini 14 or Mini 30 would work well at only about $500 to $600 each. If not the Ruger, are there other choices for a PD in this price range?
Just wondering...
I know we got some peace officers on this board. This is a question for them. I do not mean to hijack this thread.

Most of them around here use Stag Arms rifles, and the only difference in the civilian and police version is the police version gets 25 test rounds where as the civilian gets 5. I am sure they get cut a deal for buying in bulk, so there really is no way they should cost 2 grand each even with optics.
BTW thats really cool that david spaide did this.

That is a real stand up move. I saw comments people wrote that he shouldve bought kevlar to save lives. But what happens when you are outgunned and the only thing the other person wants to do is take a police officers life. I say buy em the best guns money can buy. I have family in LE and each night is a blessing that they come home safe.
If it's a straight stick AR semi-auto only then it had better be a Colt with that price tag..

Im not 100% positive but I don't think that general officers can carry select fire weapons, without going to special training.

That was a big motivator to get police armed with more effective weapons so a situation like the one above can, hopefully, be ended quicker.
