54regcab, you have to realize a few things before you ask a question like that. First off the people on the bulletin boards (if they're like me) are obsessed with their vehicles. So even the slightest problem will get posted on. No manufacture can product 100% perfect vehicles. I'm sure if there is a similar web page for (shrug) Chevys, there would be people complaining there as well. I found a web page once that had the JD Power report for initial vehicle quality (if I can find it again I'll repost). Basically they averaged it out to the number of vehicles returned to dealer for a defect per 100. The best was Lexus with 80-something. That means for every 100 Lexus' sold, about 80 will return to the dealer with defects in the first year. The highest was Isuzu with 333, meaning the average Isuzu was at the dealer 3.33 times for defects. Ford and Chevy were both near the average of 150, Ford was like 2 points better than Chevy (woohoo). But even this number can be misleading. If a vehicle is under warrantee (which new cars are) the owner is more likely to take it in if there is a problem.
So I guess to what I'm trying to say is, yes there are a few problems with Fords (and all others for that matter). But if you base that solely off of reading F150online it will seam amplified. The only thing I can liken it to is air travel. Flying is VERY safe, but most people fear it simply because 100% of plane crashes make the news.

Granted I have only had my truck for 3 months, but I have only been back to the dealer once for a minor paint flaw. It was fixed first try. I have bought 7 new vehicles, one Mercury, one Nissan, and 5 Fords, this is by far the best vehicle I have purchased. I plan on keeping this one for a long time. At this point 5000 mi, no crack or slap(knock on wood). Good luck with your truck.

I know buying a new truck is one of the greatest things out there, and when all the happiness turns to crapiness because your truck has problems, it really sucks. I know there are a few members of this board that like, and have owned long lasting trucks of other manufactureres. So I am not saying that all Dodge Rams are crap, I am saying that the 99 Ram that I owned was. It had so many problems that I will not waste your time listing all of them. While I owned this piece of chit, I would spend alot of time at the Dodge web sites, they are just like f150 online, lots of info and people willing to help, but I noticed real quick that these site were all about problems with every ones trucks. It seemed to me that there were problems to every major companents to those trucks. And for every problem, there were loads of people with that same exact problem. There was very little info on modifications, rally's, or how to lie to your wife. I guess what I am trying to say is that in my opinion Ford has alot few problems than some of the other makes out there. The day I traded my 99 Ram in for a 99 f150 was one of the best day of my life.
I know this post is not going make any one feel better, who is having problems with their new truck, because the bottom line is when you truck is broke, IT SUCKS, I am just saying there are other people out there that have it alot worse than we do.
Good luck

Ignorance is bliss. ( I'm an expert on this.)
54Regcab, 'what's going on' is this website. You basically have 2000 inspectors/test drivers living with these vehicles daily over the past four years. No product could go unscathed with that kind of scrutiny. NSS is right, some people have it much worse.
I may only be a lowly hotdog vendor but, if 2000 people were posting to a website where I got my hotdogs, what was in them or how many I dropped on the ground, I probably wouldn't sell another dog or a bag of SuperChips.
(Oh, and my dogs contain genuine NAPA parts.)

I fall under the "freezer theory". Sometimes I start squealing like a stuck pig but, in the end, I'm still going to have a Ford truck.
Ford trucks are like women with the following exception: you DEFINTELY can't to shoot a truck.

I used to frequent a dog vendor here in town who used Napa parts and I don't know how many times I got left on the seat with Montezuma's revenge. He never stood behind his product. If you think Napa is so great, You should open up one of the your franks...You will find "Made at the local Vet".
You may think your hotdogs are the best with Napa parts but unfortunatley you are sadly mistaken. The vendor I now buy from uses only QUALITY parts. He doesn't speak English, but I'm sure they are not NAPA because I'm not buying as much Peptol Bismol

Hey, I know the guy that doesn't speak English. He is my cousin, Pablo. He lives over in Boca. He does speak English, that is a ruse because he short changes everyone. That is how he lives in Boca.
...and as far as customer satisfaction is concerned, why do you think my cart is on wheels?

Hi all, I've been a member here for a while, but haven't posted for the past few months. Anyway, if you wnat to read up on this topic, search for my post of 2/22/99 titled "Seems like a lot of problems." That post went strong for months and at last check had well over 100 responses. You'll probably find what you need there if you can muddle through all of the fireworks that erupted. Good truckin' -Bear
If you go to the Ford service lot what do you see? Ford trucks. And if you go to the Chevy and Dodge service lots? Chevy and Dodge trucks. They *all* have problems. I'm not a "brand fan". I did my research, test drove them all and made a decision based on which one came closest to having the attributes I preferred. At the same time I purchased an extended warranty which I would have done with any of them. I don't want to have to pay for a tranny or something major while I'm still making payments! Like I did with my wife's Pontiac. 38,000mi. Fragged tranny. $1700. I can't tell you how bad that chapped my ***! I've had a few problems with my truck but for the most part I'm happy with it.....today. I'm still waiting for the "CRACK" to make it's appearance. I still enjoy driving my truck, and that's what matters most. This site has been very informative for me, and one of my most useful tools. Thanks to all!

I'm sitting here in my tears and spilled beer, my truck is "camping" overnight at the dealer.
I had the lumbar support come unhitched (needs replacing), the arm rest on the driver captain's chair needs replacing (yeah, the whole truck goes down cuz my butt doesn't have the best seat in the vehicle), and it's got a rough idle (MAF sensor needs replacing).
Also, my baby appears to have the piston slap -- switched to Mobil 1 and haven't heard it since (fingers crossed, I'm hoping it stays nice and quiet).
Would I trade this truck for anything else? HELL NO! Especially after this last road trip -- it ran great -- rough idle, broken seat and all.

Oh yeah, I know Pablo and his bud Juan Carlos. They are the guys at the market who tried to sell me a rotten Banana by calling it a Plantain. Being as their produce was in such bad shape, I felt sorry for the 2 Amigos and went ahead and bought it. I gave it to the hound..he seemed to like it, but left me one hell of a surprise on my carpet
