I have just over 11,000 mile on my truck, and as sad as it is to say, I have had no problems with my truck until a couple of days ago. The truck goes to the shop first thing this moring for a clutch/tranny problem. I don't know how long they'll have it, but I agree with NSS who said it SUCKS when your truck is down.

I'm amazed by how many replies on this one.
I'm very happy with my new truck and haven't had any problems.
If I ever do have problems at least I know where the no B.S. answers are!

What B.S. answers??? I thought Raoul was being very honest when he told about dropping hot dogs every now and then. As a matter of fact, the one I bought, I got for half price because there was a little dirt on it.
Truly though I think most of the people here are obsessed with their trucks and only want the very best that we can get put on and in them. Oops, I gotta go...there's a seagull circleing overhead and eyeing my ford

Tina, When I said BS answers I was referring to the the BS that some FORD service depts give you when they don't know the answer.

Well I don't know what to say here. I love my truck, it rides nice, sounds great, and looks incredible. HOWEVER....I have had nothing but problems. Since May, I have had 2 complete new rear ends put in...including the case and everything. In addition to that it has been rebuilt several times before. They can't understand what's causing these problems. I've been in contact with everyone at ford that I can and I really haven't gotten anywhere. I applied for the judicial board review of my case by ford, but since I'm out of my 36k new vehicle warranty, they dropped the issue. Basically if I wanted to pursue it any further, I'd have to take them to court. I really don't feel like going thru the hassle and the money. Since I have the extended warranty thru 60k, I'm just going to drive to 60 and sell, but it's such a pain. I've been to my ford dealer 9 times over the past 2 1/2 months, I'm really not happy. The guys at the service department dread seeing me and it shows in their treatment of me. I hate to say it, but I'd question seriously buying a new ford. I love the new superduty's but I don't know if it's worth it. From what I understand, I'm one of the unlucky few with such problems. I hoped that ford would realize this and have a little sympathy, but that was asking too much. I'd love to say that this is one of those "small problems that us obsessed truck owners are having" and though I am obsessed, I know this isn't small. My point is that I could deal with the problems with the truck if ford and their service department were a little bit more interested in dealing with me. The hardest thing to swallow is that I waited 9 months for this truck since I special ordered it with EVERYTHING that I wanted. I have babied this truck from day one. There have been soooo many small additional problems that would have forced most to trade it in by now. How many 46k trucks burn a quart of oil in 1800 miles? I've had numerous water leaks, stalling problems, transmission problems....I could go on and on. But like I said, I love my truck otherwise, and I know I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one knowing that these are rare occurences....IF I felt I had some support from ford now.

Mike

DU302,
My guess is you need to find a new dealer. It's pretty obvious to me that they can't fix the rear end properly. From what I know about gears, it takes a lot of skill to get them to mesh properly.

One other thing, you really need to properly break in the gear set when they're installed. When the truck is new, we take it easy the first 500 to 1,000 miles or so. When you get the new gears in, you have to take it easy again because the gears need to "wear" into each other again. The gears actually get stronger as they break in. (Simplistic language to describe work-hardening of the gear faces.)

Back to the original subject matter. I've owned several vehicles over the past 30+ years. Only 2 were used cars.

I have yet to buy a new vehicle that had no problems and I'm even talking about vehicles with Japanese and German engineering!! 2 blown trannies, leaky rack (steering), leaky cast aluminum wheel, constant a/c failures, and other EXPENSIVE problems.

The problems with the last 3 F-150s have all been relatively minor, especially when compared to the problems I had with various other foreign vehicles.

6800 miles without a single problem, just an annoying metallic rattle that the dealer can't find . I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!

Damn the front of my tranny is leaking fluid.
Only 3,300 miles.
Should I take it back to where I bought it (45min drive) or to my local dealer 5mins away?
This major sucks cause I need my truck for my job.

10 months - 2 problems

#1 - Recall for Cruise Control cable.
#2 - Spare tire winch failed on 2nd use.

The thing that really bothers me about these problems is that, for each, I had to make 2 trips to the dealer. First trip for "fix" - Second trip to fix it right! Jeesh!!

The 2000 models should have most of the bugs worked out. It takes a couple of years to get the bugs worked out. Remember 1988 GMC trucks had alot of problems, and finally they got most of the problems fixed. 1994 for Dodge and now 1999 for GMC. If you think you are having problems with your ford go over to edmunds.com and go to the town hall under pickup trucks and see what they are saying about the silverados. Squeaks, clucks and knocking motors. I don't post my problems over there only over here to a ford crowd.

No problems here, except for the aftermarket Remote Start. I had it in the shop 4 times!
