Cool

My worst truck was a 84 Toyota 4-Runner 4x4. 5speed (of course) and 4cyl. Turtles could grow faster than this thing could slid down hill. It had a lifter knock, dealer said "normal". Hah, my husband finally fixed it when it got so loud we couldn't stand the racket. The back window was power but it would come off it's track, usually during a major storm and always in the down position. 84 was the first year of the 4-Runner and mine was made on a truck frame. All parts that I had put on were listed in the truck section, not the 4-Runner parts. VERY ruff ride. Still, I liked the truck and it was always dependable. It would get you there but you felt like you'd just come through a war. Noisy, ruff, everythings wet in the back, you're 3 days late and you know you've been shot, every part of you is sore!!

I guess I've been fortunate. I've had a '59 Chevy Apache 32, a '63 Ford F100, a'65 Chevy C10, a '68 F150, and a '92 F150 and they've all been good pickups. My Dad had a '70 F150 4WD for many years and my wife had a '96 F150, super good vehicles as well.

'98 F150 XL Regular Cab, LWB, 4.2L V6, 5 Spd, 3.55 LS, Rhino Lining, factory heavy duty suspension, 3" Gibson Swept Side Cat Back, K&N filter, Oxford White minus the two tone garbage. BIG TIME FoMoCo p/u fan, not some fair weather hammerhead.

The worst truck I ever had was a new 87 Dodge dakota. Engine idled rough, no power, door hinges and stops broke constantly. The next year the 3.9 received fuel injection, I should have waited. 15 mpg, what a pig. I don't know where the gas went but it sure didn't go to making HP.

I suppose my criteria for dubbing a truck as "Worst truck I ever owned" would be if any one of them left me dead stranded out in the middle of the dingweeds. Since none of them did that, it's hard for me to say which of all five is the worst. They all had their quirks, but none of them ever let me down.

'71 Ford F100 390cid 4 barrel (bought quite used)...burned a quart of oil per tank of gas but that truck was fast! First truck I ever owned, bought three Nissans in between (all relatively trouble-free and reliable, but quality of '93 Nissan fit and finish was a little slack). I gotta say my '98 F150 is the best, and that after years of not thinking so hotly about Ford products.

Worst truck?

"69 Cheby El Camino. Paid $350 for it. It had a 307 4bl and ran like hell when it managed to get out of first gear (that is, if you didn't mind the blue cloud that followed it)

To give it a fair shake, it had been well abused by the time I got it. That was, by far, my worst truck.

I did get a '76 F100 from my dad's auto parts store (ex-delivery) that had 176K when taken into civilian service w/a severe oil leak. It was pretty bad! Every body panel was dented or creased and the interior was duct tape. Never changed the oil and ran it to about 260K or so before the old 300 6 banger finally went to heaven...a quart of new blood a week didn't hurt either.
Maybe that was my best truck!

Worst truck I've driven was an `88 Chevy S-10 2wd ext. cab that was my first patrol vehicle when I became a park ranger. It overheated on the slightest hills, the seats broke, the interior rattled and it made more weird noises than a mattress in a brothel.
Worst truck I ever owned was a `79 Dodge 4x4 stepside that was lifted 6" with 36" swampers. Had a built 360 that never ran right and the electrical problems were so bad that I had to wire everything up directly and use toggle switches to activate lights and signals.
BEST truck I've ever owned was my `66 F100. Grandpa sold it to me for $100 with 70,000 miles on it it 1989. I pulled it out of his barn, where it had sat for five years, tuned it up, put new tires on it and drove it from North Idaho to Southern California. Only problem I ever had was a fuel pump that went out in Oregon. $15 and 30 minutes later, I was back on the road.

A sonoma stick shift. I took it in a sonama plus cash deal for my first f150 ex cab 5.0 custom. The worst thing Ive ever driven. No power, unresponsive gear change dash rattle and the list goes on. This was about 5 years ago and the doc still has me on medication for physcalogical trauma.

The absolute worst vehicle I ever owned was an 89' Pontiac Firebird with the 2.8 v6 and 5-speed tranny. This thing was slooow. Plus it's the only vehicle that I ever wrecked before I got out of the driveway. I was backing out and a car was coming, so I had to stop. My brother was backing out in front of me, and he didn't see me stop. And he plowed into my front end with his Bronco II. I had to buy a new front end and a right fender for it!! That's not the only bad scrape I've had in that car. Come to find out, the car had been totaled before I bought it. What a POS. The clutch chattered all the time. The Red paint was fading to white because of the Sun. And the T-tops leaked water into the back seats causing them to rot and mildew. I think GM proucts are *****TY.

well i have owned a 67 chev a 67 travelall a 67 ford f 250 . a 71 ford f100 a 83 chev a 81 gmc , a 70 chev cst10 and my 90 ford f150 . the 2 fords have been the best trucks i've ever owned . the 67 ford i ran to 389,000 before that old 352 big block died . all the others ran fairly well . never left me stranded except the travelall overheated and vaporlocked all the time . so i would say the travelall was the worst . but then again i would overheat and vapor lock too if i was put through what i put it through....lol

Had to be the 77 Dodge I had. It was so rusty the fenders and bed sides flapped like it was going to try and fly away on the freeway. The last straw was the cab rusting so bad that the back of is sunk so low that the pressure it was putting on the steering column wouldn't let me shift out of first. It had a 3 in the tree for those who remember what that is. Ran like a top just wouldn't move under it's own power.

Thumbs up

I own three Ford trucks, currently and have owned two other Ford trucks. All have been great vehicles. Only one that I ever left on the roadside was 1977 F-150. That was because some kid hit me head on. Luckily, no one was injured, truck was nicest used vehicle I had ever purchased--it was completely totaled!

Many times I hear people talk bad "smack" on Ford vehicles--mostly, because they have never owned one. One of my co-workers (a former Chevy loyalist) says, "after owning two Fords--I don't plan on buying anything else".

I've owned 2 other Ford trucks in the past besides the 01' I'm driving now. The first one was an 83' F-150 with the 302 w/4-speed automatic OD tranny. When I bought the truck it had almost right at 100,000 miles on it. I had the motor completley rebuilt and had the truck painted Charcoal grey. And it was still running great after I sold it 75,000 miles later. The only thing I had done to it was replacing the bushings in the support arms that connects to the I- beam suspension. And flushing out coolant system. The second Ford truck I had was an 88' F-150 with the 300 ci. straight six with a 3-speed in the floor. This was an awesome truck! It had 101,000 miles on it when I bought it, and it ran great. Except for the power-steering pump that went out on it, I never had a problem with it. "I will always stick with a Ford."
