Yeah, the planetary alignment was supposed to unlock some portal or cause us some detriment (May 5th of some year- 1997, I think) and I didn't notice anything.

However, I haven't looked at the website about close calls, but the closest call I can recall was March 24, 1988- I think a ELE level asteriod crossed earth's path 6-hours after we'd crossed the same point. No one saw it coming, but noticed it later.

Like the guy said on "Armegeddon" when asked why didn't we see this thing coming.

"Our budget gives us enough money to scan about 3% of the sky. And, begging your pardon sir, but it's a big-*** sky!"

Since 6 is such a popular number in this thread I thought I would throw this useless info in. My daughter was born on 6/6/06 and my birthday is 3/18, anyways my daughter will be the lucky age of 6 on 12-21-12. IMO the math is scary. Anyone know the song by Rush 2112????WTF?

Actually

The calendar doesn't mean 2012 is the end of the world, but rather it marks a significant, cyclical event that occurs in our universe every 25,800 years. The Mayans tracked the eclipse of our solar system. The eclipse is the path traveled by the sun, moon, and planets through the sky. Twelve constellations lie along the ecliptic, and the sun passes through all twelve during the course of one year. The ecliptic cross over the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle near the constellation Sagittarius. As such, it forms a cross with the Milky Way, and this cosmic cross was called the Sacred Tree by the ancient Maya. (The cross form was also known as the "crossroads." Amazingly, the center of this cosmic cross, that is right where the ecliptic crosses over the Milky Way is exactly where the December solstice sun will be in A.D. 2012. This alignment occurs only once every 25,800 years.
FYI the Greeks and several other civilizations document this very movement of the zodiac. The global scientific community agrees that this event will occur at 11:11 a.m. GMT on December 21st, 2012. WIll the world end, if it does, we aint payin taxes!!!!!

Oh and btw. Somebody mentioned the great flood. Yea, some person said that the gravitational pull from nibiru actually caused the oceans to rise.
Which I also think doesnt add up because of the displacement factor. You cant just flood the whole world with water that has already settled. That would leave a gap somewhere. Which certainly couldnt happen unless their was a physical force holding it.

could be wrong, but didn't the mayan calender accurately predict when other things occured? like the arrival of "the white man" to the new world, predicted to the precise month day and year.

not sure if i believe it, but it is kinda interesting
