UAW seeks board seat in exchange for concessions

The UAW concessions include allowing the domestic automakers to postpone their required health-care contributions from 2010 to 2012 and to eliminate the controversial jobs bank, which allows laid off workers to receive most of their compensation.
In return, Local 2404 President Marc McQuillen said the union is seeking "an equity stake in the company most likely in the form of a seat on the board of directors."

When are these guys going to wake up and realize they might have to take a couple dollar pay cut to keep their jobs!! This "I'll sink this mother ------ first" attitude astounds me. I would whether make $28 an hour with a job instead of $30 and no job.

They just need to file bankruptcy so they can get out from under these guys then. If we bail them out, they'll be in the same position a few years down the road.

I agree.. if they can find a judge that will let them keep all there assets. Then restructure without the unions. The time is ripe for this change. They could come back and bring detroit back with them if they do it right. I am sure a lot of detroit citizens would LOVE to have a job at $17 an hour.. a lot better than getting unemployment!

1 of 2 things will make me happy:

1.) They get the bailout, but gov't says "only if open shop".
2.) The dont get the bailout, file for restructure bankruptcy, and guess what happens then,...Open Shop.

This isnt a 3rd world country, this isnt a coal mine, OSHA actually enforces rules, Hoffa is buried in a field.

Personally, I'd go for the option of staying home and making $30 an hour with no job rather than go into work for $28 an hour...... what a country!
