Parking spaces
I just purchased my 99 truck.
At my shop I park in the back where not too many people park. But every time when I don't take up 2 spaces, somebody parks right beside me. This ticks me off since there are at least 5 to 6 spots available on the left and right of me.

rcantu: The person parking next to you probably figures it's a sure bet that you won't be dinging his vehicle. Also, could it be that you're parking in a more convenient place? Try parking on the far side of the lot.
You know. I just about gave up trying to keep the damned truck ding free. It's just not worth the effort. I'll park in the first stall that my truck easily fits into. These days, body shops can cheaply and quickly take out dings. The first ding is always the hardest one. After that, just relax!

I said the same thing you did a while back and some of the handicapped ppl on the board burned me up over it.
I too saw the same thing, no handicap sticker and so forth.

I work at the Home Depot.....talk about losing sleep at night.....visions of orange lumber and shopping carts chasing my truck down, no matter what I do they still keep following me!!!! I park in the Boonies, have a buddy that parks next to me......still walk around my truck to inspect for dents and dings before I get in...I was thinking about some kind of computer program like that car on Knight Rider.....a couple missles, lasers and machine guns along with radar and a loudspeaker to keep cars away.....

54 - NO Dissabled Licence Tag, or window hanger, other than that - just an educated guess. I really did not want to get into a big haraunge over this. First post was in jest. Second to indicate I park in the boonies.

I usually try to sort of watch where and how I park but sometimes you have no choice. I can usually find a spot and fit into it, it's getting back out that is a b*%&h, I hate looking like an idiot pulling up and back just to get out of a spot. I'll be glad when Ford adds a 4 wheel steering system like the new GMC's have from Delphi.
I always try to park as far away from other cars as possible. I hate it when some guy in a geo metro cant park and takes 1 1/2 parking spaces. That pisses me off. I mean seriously it is difficult to park a truck but a GEO??? I have no dings on my truck so I guess parking far away works. I dont mind the walk.
I dont even let valet take my truck. One time I came to a Toyota dealer (Dont ask) and this 16 year old kid comes out. I was like WTF? He was really happy to see my Expy pull up. I was like no I got it. If anyone was to ever damage my vehicle I would probably kill them. Watch for me on the news LOL
Shopping carts we all hate. Some guy at costco let his cart go right in the middle of the *&%^$# road. It was headed straight for my truck. I got out just in time to get it to stop. The guy had left (UNFORTUNATELY!)

what really makes me mad is when there's those people who just bought their car and they either park diagonally in the spaces, or take up two spaces. So, i just park in the space next to them as close as i can get to their drivers door, and that way they have to climb in through the passenger side. hahaha.
Since I am a civil engineer and have actually designed parking lots, I guesss I have to chime in here.
A normal 90 degree parking spot is only 9' wide for a standard space and a normal lane width on most roadways is 12'. The other problem is that the depth is only 18' and our trucks are longer than that.

It's all about $$. The bigger the parking spaces get the fewer spaces you have. To get the same spaces would cost more because you need more and more land. Architects do not want to spend money on asphalt, they want to spend money to make it look nice to get you there in the first place. Developers do not want to spend any more money than is absolutely necessary and most commercial property is pretty expensive.
As most of you have seen, the compact car spaces are popping up all over the place, which means more spaces in the same amount of area. This saves the developer $$.

Door dings and my wife wanting to park close to the grocery store were part of the reason I bought the toy. Who cares if it gets beat to heck?
When I'm in the truck, I park it all alone a long way from the building. Then I can admire it every inch of the long walk to it.
