What free antivirus are you using?

Just what it says. What are you using that's a free anti virus and are you happy with it. Since I've lost the ol' job, I don't have the company AV anymore so I'm out to get my own. I've looked at the usual AVG, Avast and AntiVir looks kinda neat. Anybody using Comodo CIS?

I've been using AVG for years, and so have several friends. It has been awesome and runs automatically in the background without drawing any computer performance.

I use AVG free version. I don't know if it's the best but it's been working good for me for the last few years

I like avast, primarily because it uses very little system resources.

The thing to keep in mind with antivirus programs (or suites as the marketers call them) is that many of their traits--resource hogs, difficulty installing, blocking legitimate programs from installing, regular costs--are worse than the viruii they are "protecting" you from.

Kind of like hiring the Mob to protect your house from graffiti.

Avast, least amount of resources for the most protection.

AVG 8.0, Any thing higher is going to be a trial. The same goes for Avast. The new version is a 90 day trial if I'm not mistaking. I have AVG 8.0 if you need it. I think it can also be downloaded from download.com

I bought Kaspersky a little over a year ago, and I hated it. I installed on a laptop that was semi slow at times the the performance of the laptop went down so bad it was like I switch to dial-up when I was online (had DSL). It also kept saying I have Trojans her and there so the program would remove them then they would reappear.
Hope you have better results.

Well, I gave Comodo a good look. They no longer support just the antivirus. You have to use the free complete internet security package. That's more than I wanted. I looked at AntiVir and it had lots of good reviews and is highly rated. But it comes with a daily popup and there have been some issues so I passed on it. I thought Avast was going to be the one. They have a 60 day limit on registration which I didn't have a problem with but it only comes with a 1 year free license. So I'm running AVG 8.0.176. It's worked at the church so far and you wouldn't believe where the kids try to go with church computers. So far, so good. I have access to Norton for free but it is a pain to install and even worse to get rid of- it will never see any computer I own. Anyway, thanks for the replies.
