Close election

Why is everyone acting like Obama has united the whole country when he won with 52% of the vote? Bush won with 50% So Obama has a 2% advantage, and everyone acts like it was a landslide victory and every American got their wish.
BTW Obama got just over 2 million more votes than Bush did in 04.

The landslide comes into play when looking at electoral votes.....Bush won by ~34 in 2004. Obama is up by over 200.

but being up by 200 in electoral votes doesnt mean he united the country. i think the OP has a point, only 52%. people are actling like it was 92%.

I realize that. But I was replying to the part about why "everyone acts like it was a landslide victory", because according to the EV's, it was.

But hey, whatever either side has to do to make themselves feel better about the election is fine by me.

yes ive wondered this many many times myself the past couple days, i would also bet $100 that alot of those 52 million votes were doings of illegals and acorn, i believe mccain won more states too didnt he? just not california (and lord forbid if we upset that state) along with a few other big states.... i say he won IN and FL and much like hillary was screwed.... but anyway that dont seem to matter now, im just gonna do what i said and pretend obama is non existant and hope this 8 years goes by (i say 8 cause im not even voting in 2012, it wouldnt count anyway), and keep my nose out of his buisness (providing he keeps his out of mine).... i do however have the "told you so" banner ready to fly when the time calls for it......

He just happened to win all the big electoral states is all. So, our presidential election is basically decided by 6 or so states and if you can win them, you got it in the bag.. By the time our polls closed on the West Coast, it was already basically decided and the news was all but calling it for Obama.. Then at 8:30 pm PST, it was official.. My vote meant absolutly NOTHING... Zip, zero, nadda...

not really a landslide in the grand scheme of things. bhibbs, how many registered voters are there in america? come back with a number then look at the difference between the 2's votes.

the electoral imo is retarded and shouldnt apply, it should be based on pop vote first then the electoral 2nd if in event of a tie. thats just my retarded thought after this election though.

lol yeah mitch, your right on that one. pisses me off that it was like 7pm or so when i heard he conceded.

So in 2000 when Gore had over 543,000 more pop votes than Bush, you wouldn't have minded?

52% to 46% is not a landslide at all, but i guess we will agree to disagree.

heres a link to check out. his margin seems pretty "normal" compared to previous elections in our short history.

53% vs 46%

349 vs 163 Electoral Votes.

More people voted for Obama than any other president, EVER.

They took 22 Seats from Republicans in the Senate,

With winners yet to be called for eight of the House's 435 seats, Democrats were projected to win 254 seats, with Republicans having 173.

But hey, If it makes you feel better to think it was close....

If you look at geographically in square miles, McCain won!

Rip off, if you ask me.
