LOL_ How did I know that?

I knew yesterday afternoon, when I heard that Colin Powell officially endorsed Barak Obama, what the reaction would be on this website. LOL

It's funny...

For weeks I've heard how much Colin Powell was respected, and how he could get his or her vote before Obama. How Powell was a man of integrity, character, etc...

Now that he endorses Obama...

Aw, that's just because he's black and Obama's black... There's a "connection". His choice to endorse Obama couldn't possibly be because Powell is an educated man, and experienced leader who lead thousands into battle, and held the highest military position and the third highest position in this country. No; all that is nullified (now) because they share the same skin color...

F150onliners please!

I knew it... I KNEW someone would disqualify everything Powell said BEFORE he endorsed Obama, and dumb it down to- 'Obama's black, Powell's black, that must be why...'

I think Obama's ideology is just what this country needs. We need to change direction. We're lost, staying on course, or driving faster in the same direction- only gets us further away from where we need to be.

Even if four years later it's shown Obama's change in direction (Should he win) proves to be wrong too- we know the path we're on isn't right- so we've got to try something else. At least Obama seems to have the headlights on, and a map, not just a gut feeling.

I just hope some "sister-licking" goober from West Virginia doesn't try to snipe him. A lot of people hate him, simply because he's black. That's a dangerous situation... They took out one of the last young, Harvard educated, well-spoken, inclusive, motivational, smart, idealistic Presidents (Kennedy). Hearing how many regular people hate him deeply worries me about his well-being, should he win.

I admire him for essentially saying, "I know the risk, I know a lot of you hate me, but ____ you, I'm running anyway."

Go Obama!

T-Minus 15 days...

X2. I think it was T. Boone Pickens said once "a wrong decision is better than no decision at all." I think that applies to Obama right now. Right, wrong or otherwise we better get going on a different track.

Powell is a man with respected credentials.
Obama has stated that Powell could serve at any level or degree he desired.

I just hope......Obama does not send him to the UN to testify with a bunch of CIA 'evidence'.

Powell will be like, "WTF ?"

Hersh,

I read the racial comments in the thread you are talking about, and you are absolutely right. There are people on both sides of the aisle that still have racist views. I find myself embarrassed to be on the same side of an issue with some of the posters I read here. We tend to get to the same destination via different transportation. Not all people who do not support Obama are against him because of his skin color... or his weird name.

Exactly! And, I resent being lumped into that group. I'm against McCain too, just not as much as Obama. As for Powell, I would have voted for him whether he ran as a Dem or Rep, and I still would. I can see why he made the endorsement, but I wish he had not done so. His doing so does not change my respect for him or what I think he would do as a President.

I stand behind what I said about Powell.

He is a great man and a leader that I would gladly trust with the future of this country.

Not much to say about his support of Obama other than I don't agree with his decision. I also question his decision to publicly offer support for Obama just weeks before the election knowing the potential it could have on the outcome of the election. That is his decision though and nothing can change it now.

IMO this really was the final nail in McCains coffin. Powell is respected by republicans, media and the African American community.

Upon hearing this news I was disappointed, maybe feeling a bit betrayed, not because of Powells decision but because I knew the damage this news would do to the McCain campaign.

i would vote for colin powell. just not for who he supports this year. i respect the man alot, but not to the point were i would blindly follow any decision he makes. i just hope he doesnt get brainwashed by the "change we can believe in." stuff if he is part of obamas cabinet.

i understand what you are saying about feeling a little betrayed scott. first thing that popped into my head was when oprah endorsed obama over hillary. lots of women felt betrayed by oprah when that happened.

CrAz3D I am a bit confused, I do not recall ever saying Powell is a racist. Care to explain?

All I can say is

Actually, I can understand not voting for a candidate based on his policies but never on something like the colour of his skin. All the racial stuff is Bull. What is this 1958 or 2008?
Do you have any idea how bad this makes America look to the rest of the world? Maybe you care, maybe you don't. It's not doing you any favours to the countries that think you are a bunch of backwoods Rednecks (and no, that isn't Britain).

Whatever the outcome on Nov 4th, I hope it all works out for you.

Apologies.
At least now I know what your opinion of me is.

Agreed. It's a sad state when some Americans are still stuck in the 50's and 60's. Gladly, some of us have moved on and have grasped more productive lives and found out what's more important. Even though Obama policies may help some, they basically refuse to see an African American in the White House. This is indeed a turning point in American history. Like it or not. - Og
