quick legality question....

so i was goin to a meet tonight and was speeding a little cause i was late and i passed this white chevy and he had all this cop crap on his truck and when i passed he turned his sirens on which scared the crap out of me....then i looked back and saw that he wasnt a cop....then i slowed down to get next to him (i had a little road rage at that point) and he kept slowing down cause i guess he was scared i was gonna pull a gun or something lol....then i crossed in front of him to get on the beltway and he turned on his sirens and cop lights and followed me....and then he started saying a lot of crap on his speaker and just kept following me....it REALLY ticked me off....anyways, my question is.....isn't what he did (impersonating an officer) a HUGE felony or no?? i was jsut curious cause i almost wanted to report him...he jsut kept following me

I think you're supposed to call 911, and find a well lit area. They see if it is indeed a unit following you. If not, they send a unit.

At least that's how I think it works in Texas when you deal with unmarked units.

But yea, impersonating an officer can get you in some serious crap anywhere. Not sure if it's a felony, but it's pretty bad.

In Texas, it is illegal to have red lights on a vehicle unless a State, City, or County authorized vehicle. Use of a siren is illegal unless you have written permission from the same. If it happens again, look for exempt license plates. You don't see any, it's a fake and call the law with the plate number. They WILL pay him a visit and he may lose his truck and get a State paid vacation in one of the scenic locations throughout Texas.

Maybe he really was a police officer just his vehicle was not striped out. The department I work for you can own your own police vehicle and all of the striping is magnetic so you can remove it to drive your vehicle when you are off duty. The lights and sirens and radio etc... stay on.

If the guy really was a cop, I think this story would be a little different. Someone here might have needed bailing out.

The narc officer in our town drives a unmarked tahoe. He pulls people over all the time with it. He has strobes, but so do I. It is unmarked because people are stupid enough to sell him drugs when he asks, and they he turns on the lights and sirens and arrest them. Lol. It is really humerous to watch. But yeah, definatly turn that fool in next time. Its better safe then sorry.

The other day a guy pulled over a high school girl ( she had homecoming in shoe polish on her car) in an unmarked crown vic, got out and was wearing a blue suit with no marking on it. He got her out of the car, and searched her's, then he talked to her for a bit and let her go. Come to find out he is not a cop and now there is a big uproar over it because people think the next step he takes will be kidnapping.

Two guys got arrested for doing this exact same thing a couple of weeks ago here in manhattan, ks. If I remember correctly, they were arrested for impersinating an officer and their bail was set at $25,000.
