Shipping Vehicles Cross-Country

Does anyone know of a good company to ship vehicles across the country? Also, what should one expect to ship a large, older vehicle?

I'm on vaca in Cali and bought a 59' Cadillac Elderado Barritz, a 56 Chevy Bel Air Convt, 59' Elcamino, and a 57 Dodge Pick Up and I'm shipping all of them USPS. Bubble wrap and the whole nine yards! I'll post some pics when I get home.

But seriously, my friend just bought a new Dodge Ram Cummins and had it shipped from Colorado to Ohio. The truck was flawless when he recieved it. I'll ask him when I get home next week all the details.

BTW, whatcha' contemplating?

Thanks, man. I appreciate you checking with your buddy on how that worked for him...

My story on why this may need to occur can't be published just yet... kind of preliminary at this point but, I need to come up with some numbers so that my incidentals budget doesn't get blown out of the water by a cross-country ship...

Thanks again...

Any one else have any insight?

the prices have gone far and away from the last time I checked now it will depend on the weight of the vehicle being sent and millage the price will also be dependent on if you go open sided, enclosed, or curtain side

here is a decent place to start http://www.autoshipping.com/across%2...FSJIagodl1M3jg

also this was discussed awhile back here you go (minus the usual sarcastic statement about using the search feature ) https://www.f150online.com/forums/ge...s-country.html

Thanks, man... believe it or not, I did search. I guess I either missed it or didn't hit the keywords well enough.

There are LOTS of folks out there shipping vehicles...

Read this thread...

After seeing how some of the vehicles are treated, I'd rather just drive em.... Especially with how **** you are about vehicles.

I said ****.

you'll pay a bit more for an enclosed carrier but it's worth it, try bill fields at eagle river express he specialises in classic vehicles

I just got my Roush shipped from WI to CA and "tried" to get my old truck (trade in) shipped back to the dealer.

It is risky and a very flustrating thing to endure. If you search online, you will find many many many companies saying how great they are. But dig deeper and about 95% of them are just brokers who contract out to independent truckers. These truckers are VERY unreliable. Search for Reviews and/or complaints on these companies and it scare the crud out of you.

There a two things I would highly recommend. You cannot be in a hurry. If you are....forget it. Second, check the BBB before using anyone. I actually scheduled two different companies to pick up my OLD truck and put deposits down. Neither showed up or called and eventually I had to go after them to get my money back. Also, use a credit card.

On the delivery of my new truck, I used Fedex Custom Criticle Vehicle Transport based on the Roush dealers suggestion. They used an enclosed trailer, picked up on time, and took extra good care of the vehicle. But they told me it would be 7-10 days for delivery. It took 30 days!!! They lied to me several times and said they didn't know where the driver was with my vehicle, when I came to find out later it was stored in a warehouse. A few days before the 30 day mark, I told them I wanted my vehicle or I was going to report it stolen to the police. It finally showed up a few days later. They did take good care of it, but the whole situation took years off my life. It was about $2000, very expensive.

If I had to do all over again, I would pay someone to drive the vehicle for me. And I still have my old truck that I am trying to sell, because I never could get anyone reliable enough to transport it.

In short, it is a screwed industry. I am sure there is someone good out there but good luck finding them.

Ack... thanks, Glen. That worries the crap out of me...

FWIW, it's my 1978 Bronco. I'm not willing to part with it and don't want it to be here when I may be 'there'.

OH yeah 1 more thing RP do not under any circumstances use swift transportation service their drivers have a nasty habit of driving the vehicles into town to go party I cant tell you how many times Ive seen swift car haulers unload a car in the truck stop parking lot and leave for several hours and a few have been stopped for dui in cars they were transporting I would suggest if at all possible to strip the registration, plates and, proof of insurance and either have them travel with you or if they need to be with the car send them fedex to a address you can pick them up at

I'm a member of Superduty diesel also. I'd definitely recommend Bama Auto Movers as well.
