I remember seeing one 406, now. A guy had it in a fake Thunderbolt down in Waco. Seems like Lincolns or Edsils might have had some of those bastard sizes, but you never saw one, even at a salvage yard.

The early Mustangs used two different 4 speed transmission. What is the name of the stroger, more sought after 4 speed?

They used a T10 and Ford built tranny that I always heard referred to as a "Dagenham." Of the two, the Dagenham was stronger.

***edit***
Okay, well, after answering, I tried looking online for an answer, and it seems the Dagenham was used on a lot of straight sixes, so maybe it wasn't the stronger of the two, but that's still how I remember it. Oh well.

Are you certain? I have always heard the stronger one referred to as "top loader", for obvious reasons. But now that you say what you have, is it also the Dagenham? I think the weaker side loader is the T10.

My memory is probably playing tricks on me, but for some reason, I was connecting the Dagebham with the six cylinder.

I edited my original answer to include what I found after I answered.

The Dagenham wasn't a top loader, and you're right, the top loader was stronger. I guess there were three 4 speeds available.

I've got a fun question for you anyway:

What was the first production (installed in a production vehicle) year for the 302 Windsor?

Yeah, I think the Dagenham was for the six cylinder only and may not have even been syncronized.

I did, lol, but I'll ask it again:

Don't feel bad, it's kind of a trick question. There is a correct year answer, but very few people get it right.
