downloaded virus
Not to take away from your current problem AZ, but my Norton picked up W32.Spybot.Worm. It couldn't repair or quarantine it. It said it deleted the files but the infection remains. My computer doesn't seem to be running any differently. Is this a virus I need to worry about or just leave it alone?
Hey Lt
I've never understood why it can quarantine, but but nto destroy the virus.
It's just irritating when they are still there.
On another note, It seems I never get rid of all the problems till I reformat.
When I do that I also like to buy a new disc drive, they're always faster and more compresed.
Good luck caAZed .I hate it when that happens.

I'm kinda computer illiterate when it comes to reformatting and other stuff. It scares the hell out of me when I have to attempt something like that. When my computer crashed awhile back I was on the phone with Dell (in Canada, so I was able to understand them) for a total of 6 hours. They were very patient and friendly and walked me through everything.
Do you think I can just leave it alone or do you think it's just a crisis waiting to happen?
Hey. LT.
Last week I had my desk top crash. Would not go to BIOS. The wife was opening an attachment from one of her class mates. I pent 2-3 hours with HP support in India.
It will be going for a cross country ride to the Canadian teck center.
good thing I have spares.
good luck with your problems.

last and only HP desk top I will buy untill they relocate their tech support back to north america.

OK....I have to ask. So a MAC NEVER gets a virus?

Most of the time it's just trying to accomplish something to learn about software in a controlled environment.
The other use is retaliation for attacks but if the other guy knows their stuff too it can get bad.
Mhmm.
When something is up with my computer I run a series of programs to cover all possible threats, so if you don't know what it is, how can you decide on what to use first?

Mac's almost never get any sort of virus or malware infections because nobody tries. They could if a hacker or coder wanted to, but they don't waste their time since Mac's take up such a small portion of the computer industry. Same goes for computers that are using a Linux or Unix based operating system. There's simply not that many of them.

macs probably could get a virus if someone took time to make one. but the real jackpot to virus makers is in windows based computers.
even if you download a virus on a mac that was made for windows, your golden. mac and windows are totally different, so essentially you are virtually 100% safe against viruses. if the demand rises for mac os x or something then im sure a virus will pop up eventually, but as for now im pretty sure there is no threat against macs.
oh and they are well worth the money. the OS is made for the machine it is being ran on, and together they run flawlessly. i love my mac, money well spent.

Just because I make some doesn't mean I use them on random people. I've only done a few simple things to actual people that won't leave me alone, sometimes I get "anonymous" people that randomly do this stuff on AIM or MSN that will try to scare me or something. When I give them their full name, address, and phone numbers they usually shut up.

I can get a complete set of the latest drivers for you. Is your computer a prebuilt model? If so just give me the info on the brand and model/year and I'll send a .rar driver package your way.
He said he had that program then used an Anti-Virus program to get rid of it. So he wasn't trying to use an Anti-Spyware tool for that purpose.

I'd be a bit worried, because if the virus is polymorphic (which almost all worms are) it can spread extremely easily. Try Spybot Search and Destroy. If that doesn't work you can try looking at some different Anti-Virus programs because Norton isn't that great.
When an Anti-Virus program quarantines a virus, it's because it's a polymorphic virus. Meaning that it can spread itself to other files on your computer. When it's in quarantine, it can't do that. It can't destroy it because some virus' will jump to different host files when it tries to get deleted, or because it fused itself into a system file. Which if you deleted that, Windows would cease to operate properly.
