Change - Explain Your Thoughts
aw come on ! Ya didn't HAVE to delete the Cali thread, did ya ? Sure, we did "cuss" a lot, but everything else was kept fairly clean, kept between a group of friends, and we even bashed some new guy when he posted a very inappropriate pic. If someone that wasn't our friend jumped in, we would be more then helpful to them, and point them in the right direction, give them tips for whatever they were asking. It was a fun thread.
Now, a more serious note, why can't we have a similiar thread ? One where we just BS back and forth, a place where we can post up pics of other project rigs other then our Fords, a place where we can joke with each other and what not. Will any thread where we just hang out in be deleted ? If we are friends, but we make fun of each other, will it make for automatic delete ? I would like to start another similiar one, but want to stay within the rules, if both are possible. We are not asking to post "****" pics, or even have no language filter, just wondering how possible it is to have somewhere where we can talk to each other as we would in person ?

I am also wondering. If this turns into a place like some other we could mention, where threads and posts are deleted for no good reason with no explanation of why, you will see active membership drop.
If you as a moderator feel it is neccisary to close a thread, thats fine. The last post in the thread should be from the mod who closed it and should provide a brief reason why. Thats how it is on other forums, and issues with moderators are almost unheard of.
Closing the Cali thread wasnt needed. Moving it to this section would have been more appropriate.
Also, if a thread is not safe for work or kids, add a NWS or NKS tag to the title. Then it is your own fault if you veiw it and get offended. We are all adults here (most of us), so let's act like it.

General discussion is for off-topic threads. The thread in suspension, while it started as a suspension thread, quickly went WAY off topic to something totally different. It spun into 40+ pages of absolutely nothing to do with suspension.
It was removed... not copied, not moved to general... it was removed. The reason it was removed is simply because it was in a forum that was not conducive to the type of banter that was ongoing. Additionally, as MT points out, extensive circumvention of the word censor - specifically with regards to "F" - was in there.
You guys CANNOT expect me to ramble through 40 plus pages of garbage and weed out the suspension and delete all the other 'stuff'. Sorry guys... that's an unrealistic expectation.
Further, if a thread is removed, it's absolutely a-o-k to contact us to inquire. What isn't acceptable is to spin another thread just because you think it was unjust.

Absolutely incorrect. This site, while typically frequented by adults, doesn't allow adult material. Never has... I'm sorry, that's not going to change here.
You other post is somewhat contradictive though. You say that GD is for off topic threads, yet the Cali thread was deleted because it was off topic. Why wasnt it just moved? Simply becuase of the whole curse word sensor thing? If it was that big of a deal, why werent certain member warned before the thread was closed? Give them a chance to redeem themselves. If they persisted, close the thread.
I dont have that big of an issue with this instance in particular, I have just seen it start a downward spiral with mods and power in the past on other forums.
Again, guys and gals.... I cannot stress this enough - and I genuinly mean it. If you have a question or concern about the site, don't hesitate to PM me.
If you'll ask aloud, most will tell you that, when they have asked, I've answered. I don't candy-kote many things and, via PM, I'm actually quite a bit more frank than I may be here via a post... If the PM is respectful, lacks an absolute temper-tantrum, and is open to response, I'll respond when I have a minute.
Sometimes you may get an answer that you don't like, don't appreciate, or find to be the wrong decision. In all of those cases, you may be absolutely correct in feeling the way that you do but, it will likely be the decision that is made. That's not a 'power trip' thing that some may immediately think but rather, a decision that has been made by someone who is expected to make some decisions on behalf of the site, the owners of the site, and the membership of the site.
Thanks, guys.

Ok
So, what about the second half of my post ? What about starting another thread ? What will cause it to get deleted ? If we make another similiar thread, put it in the GD area, then are we good ?
I have skirted around the language filter for the year+ I have been a member. I have never received a warning, and never was told to stop. I never had a thread deleted because of my cursing... until this one. I know, the rule has been in place for X amount of time, but why is it all of a sudden being enforced ? I will stop and comply with the rules, as I have said I enjoy the site, but I did not think it was that serious of an issue. Curse words are plain silly in my honest opinion. It dates back to medieval times and ancient days. Why these words offend people to this day is truly beyond me. Its vulgar ? Its a word !! no different then Fish, or Shoot, or Darn. Its the context. If I say go fornicate yourself, is that acceptable ? I did not use a "vulgar" word. But if your little son walks in a see's that, he will still want to know what it is. You will still be faced with the same problem of explaining it to your youngin. So, no sex talk at all ? Shouldn't the parents be responsible for parenting THEIR children ??? I wouldn't take my son camping with my normal group of friends and tell them to watch their mouths. I would know better and wouldn't allow him to go until he is older. Same with the internet, there is a TON of parenting tools to help curb what your kid see's while surfing online.
Some clearity would be great on this issue. Like I said, I want to start another similiar thread, but want to do it in a way that it can last awhile. This may be handled better in a PM. It is up to you RP.

Thats fine. I somewhat agree with you. I was just offering a suggestion. Policy is policy. You asked for my thoughts, there they are.

It should've been nixed long ago but, unfortunately, we never picked it up on our radar until yesterday when it was reported several times for language, content, and language again.
As to moving it, you're somewhat correct in that it may have had the potential to be moved but, with regard to the word censor, the overall atmosphere of this forum with respect to that censor, and the content within that thread, it would've been a two hour task to run through EVERY post within it, sanitize it, and move it down here. The bottom line is that it was WAY off topic and contained WAY more than I was willing to sit there and filter through thus, it was simply removed.
To that point, if someone wants information out of it - legitimate suspension-oriented information - I'd be happy to dig it out and PM it to them. Please send me a separate PM and we'll roll with it from there. The thread still exists; it's just not public (soft deletion).
Again, thanks for the note.

My main issue is with the 'f-bomb'. Circumvention of that particular one is way up my list of things that I'd like to see vanish from the site. Personally, - and I know I'm not necessarily alone - I just don't see the necessity for the words' usage here on the site. That includes all varieties of the word...
By your example of 'fornicate', you'd actually be going down another route that I'd rather not see here either -- that being a personal attack route. While I know that's not reall what you were meaning by that example, it's kind of what I picked up out of it immediately. Otherwise, I wouldn't be as opposed to it -- unless it was being used in a very 'wise-guy' way... for example...
"Well, fornicate! Now I have to go and buy a new bumper..." or
"I really don't give a fornicate if you go with the X wheel or the Y wheel..."
There's a difference and just about any level-minded adult with half a bit of common sense can differentiate between the types of usage that would be interpreted as 'smart arsed' and 'legitimate'. I tend to be pretty sarcastic at times so, I can put up with some of it but, intentional use to do nothing more than to mock the rule...well, I'd draw exception to that.
Lastly, if a similar thread was here in GD, it'd be fine... pending it goes along with the way things work down here. Not sure why you'd even ask that though honestly. Nearly every thread in this forum is conducted like the one up in Suspension was prior to the removal... ya know?
I don't say that to be sarcastic... it's just an obvious observation to me.
Thanks again, MT... both for your post and your honest and open discussion via PM.

Even though I've been absent the last few weeks (new baby in the house) and I've pretty much just skimmed thru this post, I think a round of applause is in order to Rock for starting the post in the first place. It's definately in everyone's best interests for an open discussion like this, even if everyones' wishes aren't met (loose swear filter, more open to ****).
I'm a mod on a few sites and it is a very demanding job with the thousands of ppl, posts and complaints which can pop up daily. There's a lot of traffic to keep an eye on and many many different personalities to keep up with.
I myself don't have any complaints on how this site is run. There's been a few ppl I've thought should've been booted for various reasons and or their posts deleted/edited, but I also realize that due to personalities varying so much, there's gonna be the "difficult ones". I've had "heated" debates with some members (mods and non-mods included) and I've even been temporarily put on hiatus by the management here for some of my posts (which we won't go into at this moment). That's life.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if certain factions think F150online is so bad cause it won't allow **** and cussing... go elsewhere. You'll find all the tuna and F-bombs your heart could possibly desire, but I doubt you'll find the caliber of knowledge, insight and help relating to the F-150 anywhere.
My .02, I'll get off my soap box now!

RP now that were are on the subject of change i know it has been talked about a lot of times but what do you think about a 97-03 forum. the truck on the top right is now a 04+ it that is were the website is going do you think we will get a a 97-04 forum
Thanks for the suggestion, man.
-RP-
I would concur with that, GTR. I think the forum gets entirely too spread out if we dedicated a forum to 97-2004 engines, pre-1997 engines, 2004-2008 Engines, and now, 2009+ engines.
