and I absolutely understand that both parties are giving me the business

Not to mention, Arizona's school system. One of the lowest in the nation.

The problem that US voters often make is mistaking taxation for compassion. I do my best to donate to charitable causes that I agree with. That's compassion. When the government takes my property on threat of seizure and/or imprisonment to give to someone who made bad decisions (or was simply unlucky), that's theft.

Why does this FACT elude so many?
Shines is correct.
The lack of personal responsibility in this country is sickening. I'm 25 and buying my first house...I'm not looking at anything over $90k. I make $160k a year. I've been in the ****ter before, between being sick/injured and just the general instability that is LIFE. I am in no way better/wiser/smarter than any other person, I have simply accepted that life comes with risks, rewards, highs, and lows...and they are up to each and every one of us to plow through...not up to our "village" to get us through. It has always been the drive and determination of the individual that has made US into the greatest nation to ever exist. Collectivism and socialism have never made for a successful nation, never made for successful people. It is pie in the sky bull**** that sounds good to those without the testicular fortitude to make their own way in life and would rather suck from the teat of laziness and ineptitude than strap one on and make their own way.
I have zero compassion for anyone who spends above their means and then complains about it when the wolf blows down the house of sticks.

Though this doesn't make me believe that I made a bad decision in '04, this is a bone head move by our president, and congress. Political manuvering at the expense of the American people.

But,
being compassionate to the ignorant buyer who purchased well above their means is not the same as
being compassionate to the misinformed buyer who was duped by a shaddy loan agent which is not the same as
being compassionate to the informed buyer, who took a chance on rates not rising.
