chevy 4.8 v8 vs 4.2 v6
no where else to put this. i was driving a friends 4.8, and under heavy acceleration it honestly feels like my v6 pulls alot harder. i have the 3.55 rear end and im not quite sure what he has. it just feels really sluggish compared to my truck. i figured the 4.8 wasn't a terrible motor but it doesnt seem to have much to offer.
any input?

My old 4.2L with the 5-speed had plenty of pep for my 4x2 extra cab. Same truck in my old sig, haven't bothered to add my 04' FX4 after all these years.
The Chevy 4.8L has 255 hp / 285 ft-lbs while newer ones 15 more hp but the same torque.
The Ford 4.2L has 202 hp / 252 ft-bls
Pretty good difference. My guess has to be with vehicle weight difference, gearing, or tire size may have something to do with it?

I know a guy that is a die hard Chevy guy. He is a carpenter and is always pulling a loaded trailer, his last 4 at least pickups have been reg. cab short box Chevys with the manual tranny, and either the 4.3 V6 or the 4.8 V8. He said with the 4.8 v8, he would hook up to a trailer and kill the dang pickup half the time taking off compared to his 4.3 v6. Said the v8 didnt seem like it had as much torque as his v6s to start off with a trailer.
But, either way, a Chevy 4.3 or a 4.8 will smoke a piddly little 4.2 Ford.
If he has a reg. cab 2wd with the small v8, he probably has higher gears too, like 308s or something...hard telling though.
