Looking for a high MPG car!!!!!!!:fyi:
I agree! I used to have a POS beretta with a 5 speed and 4 banger i bought for 500 dollars. It lasted me 4 years and got 30 mpg.
But my wife will be driving this also so it has to be decent.
Fuel consumption*
City/highway (mpg) 40/45 (EPA 2007); 33/41 (EPA 2008)
that's pretty crappy for a car that small.
A car this ugly and small will have to go get 70-80 mpg before anyone but Al Gore idols would buy it.
You can find plenty of decent used cars for very cheap. For instance, I've got a 96 Taurus sitting around waiting to be fixed that's in great shape and gets about 30mpg. Very comfy car.
There's tons of older hondas/toyatos, what have you on the net.

If MPG is all that you want, then go older. Seriously. Autoweek did a comparison of Honda's in it. A 1992 Hatchback DX got 50+ MPG on the highway. A similar sized new Honda could only pull off low 40's. Why? Weight. All new cars weigh so much more cause of the safety stuff on em.
But if you must do new, then I'd recommend a Volkswagen TDI. They'll easily pull off 60 MPG.

I have heard newer VW's break often and are expensive when they do. Not to mention the first thing I think of when I see one is they have a really bad rod knock, that would drive me nuts in a car.

That's why you get a job working in the VW tech area, get the employee discount and know the ins/outs.
no they don't.
realistically, you could see 50 max, and thats on the highway doing 55. Anything over that or if you use AC, it drops quite a bit.
And that TDI is gutless.
We got my wife a 06 civic Ex 4dr two years ago when they came out. That is by far the best car ever!! With me driving I average 33-35 in town w/ some interstate. With gas the way it is I have been driving it for the last 3 weeks. $40 gets you right at 400 miles in town. All interstate we got 505 miles
On a side note my truck just held $99
Im starting to regret buying this tank
