Let's start over......
It looks as if I will be pretty busy on this short week! I need to run up to Austin to look at a job there this afternoon and then will do my inspection report sitting in the hotel this evening watching the football game. Barring any last-minute calls, Tuesday should be fairly laid-back -- just driving back from Austin and then getting the wife's Escape squared away for our Thanksgiving trip up to Dallas on Wednesday.
I got lucky because an easy job came in for me to look at while I am up in the Dallas area -- all I should have to do is swing by Forney on the way back to Houston on Saturday, take a 30-minute look at the building, and then get back on the road heading south. If all the "family time" starts getting to me I might even try to sneak over on Friday instead and get it out of the way!
The nice thing about having this job come in is that it will allow me to submit the miles up-and-back to Dallas on my expense report -- just a shade under $300.00 in mileage reimbursement for a trip I would have made anyways.....

I always try to drop a couple of business cards or fill out a job app while on vacation to get the trip written off....my wife thinks it's crazy but it's legit
Yes -- it seems as if that's about the only perk I have left with this position -- just about every other benefit has been whittled away to a shadow of it's former self over the years! I feel sorry for the young kids coming out of school right now and trying to make a buck in this world -- I almost think going into the trades is a better career path than doing the college gig in a lot of ways right now.....

Made my 4 stops this morning and stopped back at the house for a bowl of soup. Now getting ready to deliver a 50 lb bag of special dog food to my son in laws work so he can bring it home for their 3 boxers. $65 for a bag of dog food is almost as crazy as $74 for a 10 lb Honeybaked ham! Feels like my old truck driving days when I delivered products for Texaco around the SE Louisiana region.
20K miles already? Seems like you just got that truck. I'm right at 19K miles and my truck will be 2 yrs old the first of this coming Feburary. Hope you get the lights fine tuned and working the way you want them to. Got down to 37 this morning with frost which is real unusual for here and on my 2nd cup of coffee.
I bought it July 5th 2014. So 17 months ownership so far
Before I retired I was putting a hundred miles a day on my commute. Sometimes 6 days a week so it didn't take long to rack up some miles! I'd use roughly 6 gallons of gas per day and when it was up to $4 bucks a gallon I was spending $24 a day in fuel. Good excuse to help me retire!
I did both college and trade....if I had it to do over again I would've stuck it out at the first college and not have let my scholarship go down my leg cause I partied way too much....but we can only learn from our past and that will make us better....I like to use my associate degree in structural engineering help me in this pipe trades job right now that I've been doing for 22 years...
The obvious downside of many of the trades is the wear-and-tear they can put on your body.
