Ive got a set of $20 walmart "fog" lights under my truck, they do pretty well, especially being only a foot off the ground.

 

I like how those are hidden, Patrick. I have to back down a long driveway that has some crooks in it and in Brownsboro, I have to back out of a gate. If there is any rain at all, I can hardly see at all. The backup lights are just small slits in the taillight, which looks better, but is not very functional. I hate those damn taillights, anyway.

 

I just might mounts some spots on the roof. That should help.

 

just get a roll bar with light mounts in back....

 

I agree with the useless backup light's on my '11. At least the backup camera help's a little.

Yes they are, but if guys are buying them to mount on the back of plow trucks to see at night that should tell you quite a bit.

Pat, those are pretty good for where they are mounted. Being a truck driver/light geek at heart I just don't like them hidden under the truck like that. It tends to force the lights to be pointed at the ground instead of pointing the lights directly out behind the truck where most of the lights needed or at least it is for me.

I wasnt suggesting that there isnt a better mount or light available, just posting a more economical approach. I've never had anything i couldnt see at night, even with my 1% window tint. Its just a matter of taking your time....

I only mounted mine like that for cleanliness of install. I dont want huge lights hanging under my truck.

Actually, since i did my LED tail lights, those fogs are pretty much my only light source at night. I replaced my 3157 regular bulb with a peanut 194 bulb to make way for my red stealth bulb i use as a running light. The 194 bulb is mostly just cosmetic so people can see im in reverse......

 

I think the lighting engineer for Ford decided he didn't want anyone to see with the new trucks. The headlights are no way close to as good as the 2004-2008 and the backups are a joke. Probably the guy that designed the stupid wrap around tail light decided to get back at the complainers.

 

Pat, I'm sorry I should have worded, formatted, or done both to that post before I posted it. I was in a hurry between appointments today and should have just waited to reply.

There are some cheaper versions of those Rigid lights from DDM Tuning that are pretty decent for what you pay for them at about $35 per light compared to $100 per light. I agree with you on the cleanliness of your install though it would have completely ruined the look you have by dangling big lights off your back bumper. There are some other option but I'm not sure how keen Jim is about drilling and cutting on the bumper of his new truck.
