Dave, buck up and get to it. I put off doing mine forever cause I was nervous too. Really, it wasn't that bad. I did it with the motor off. Drilled, tapped, then started it to blow out the shavings. Haven't had any issues with it. Just be sure to retighten everything after a few hundy miles/heat cycles.
The service manager at the dealership really takes care of me, otherwise, they would charge so much I would not use them. They charge $76 for balancing the tires, he cuts it to $20. They charge $200 for servicing the diff and he cut it to $175. That is still too much, but I let it go.

$130 for diff service 5qt capacity.....
$10 hazmat fee....
Of course we don't have the blue oval hanging over our door.....
Linch is over....... time to go button things up in the cab for my gauge install and start punching some more holes in my truck.
